Towne Centre is an income based senior apartment building less than a mile away from the Growing Hope urban farm. The residents have been actively gardening in 40 wooden beds for years. This year, we are replacing all 40 garden beds with new, untreated wood. In addition to replacing the beds, we will be building them farther apart and taller for increased safety and accessibility.
In the last couple of weeks, residents, volunteers, and Growing Hope staff demolished all 40 beds, shoveled loads of soil, and moved the old wood boards out of the way. Join us this week for part 2! We will be returning to shovel soil some more, as well as begin building the new beds! Carpentry skills of all levels are welcome.
Tasks:
Shoveling soil, carrying and moving wood, tools, and constructing garden beds.
We have limited tools so please bring the following if you own them:
Power drills, impact driver, and wood vice
**bathrooms and water available on site
Note: parking is available behind the apartment complex or in the front parking lot. Visitor parking signs are facing Dos Hermanos. You can enter through the building or come around back.
