To help increase access to reading materials in our community, United Way and our community partners have built and maintained Little Free Libraries throughout the Detroit and Pontiac areas!
Volunteers are needed on Thursday, August 21, from 10 a.m. to Noon to restock and care for these libraries to ensure they remain welcoming and full of diverse reading materials for the community.
Volunteers will meet at United Way's Community Fulfillment Center (located within 180 Church, 13660 Stansbury St., Detroit) at 10 a.m. for a brief project overview and to receive project supplies, including a kit with:
- 90 assorted books
- Cleaning supplies
- Instructions
- A QR code to submit a brief report on each location
Each volunteer will be assigned three to five Little Free Libraries to visit, and will travel to their assigned sites to restock, clean, apply new United Way stickers to the inside of the box, and take photos of their completed work. Volunteers will be provided with directions to their sites, instructions for accessing each library, and the name and contact information for the local Site Steward or contact person.
You are welcome to sign up with a buddy, but if you don’t have a partner, we’ll pair you with another volunteer. If registering with a teammate, please include their name in the notes section when signing up. Note: All volunteers need to still register prior to the project date, either via a Team registration or individual registration.
