Junior Achievement’s mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. With the generous help of volunteers, JA provides educational programs to students in grades K-12 in the areas of financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship. The curriculum in each of JA’s 23 programs is correlated to the state education standards. JA programs will impact over 50,000 students this school year.
JA Finance Park is an experiential learning program located in JA’s administrative offices in Detroit at 577 E. Larned. Middle and high school students visit the park after four weeks of teacher led instruction. A member of the JA staff provides the educational content and instructions for volunteers and students throughout the day. Upon arrival at the park, the students are provided with a life scenario and become adults for a day. They participate in a monthly personal budgeting experience by shopping at storefronts sponsored by area businesses, paying bills and learning if they spent within their budget.
During the simulation at JA Finance Park the students will use tablets to create their budgets and make choices about how they’ll live within their means. They will receive debit cards and swipe at various storefronts to pay bills. Other attributes within the life scenario involves child care, credit scores, renting instead of being able to buy a home and using public transportation as opposed to being able to finance a vehicle.

* The event will last approximately 5 hours
* Please plan to bring a lunch. We can keep it cold for you. Absopure water will be provided.
* Each volunteer will be assigned 5 – 8 students to mentor throughout the course of the day.
