Internship Title: Program & Partnership Development Intern
ORGANIZATION NAME: Porter's Place
Organization Overview: Porter’s Place is a new community and cultural hub within the Ann Arbor Housing Commission dedicated to intergenerational programming, healing‑centered engagement, and community‑led arts, culture, and education. Rooted in the history and legacy of Ann Arbor’s historic West Side, the space aims to honor and carry forward the traditions of Black community leadership, cultural expression, and collective care. We partner with local organizations to provide accessible programming for youth, families, and adults across the greater Ann Arbor community.
Position Overview
The intern will support the development of Porter’s Place as a new community and cultural hub by playing a central role in launching Porter's Place's inaugural programming year, working across Event & Program Support and Community and University Partnership Development. The intern will support programming by assisting with on-site setup, logistics, and day-of coordination for intergenerational and healing-centered programs, including tracking what's working through simple evaluation tools and helping organize the volunteers who make programs possible. Partnership development will include strengthening partnerships with U-M departments, centers, and student organizations. Depending on their academic interests, the intern will also have the opportunity to design and facilitate a community-aligned workshop that connects their own research and expertise with community learning. As time permits, they may also contribute to resident resource guides, program documentation, and short-term research on best practices for community cultural centers.
This internship is sponsored by the Community-Based Internship Fund at U-M’s Ginsberg Center. As part of this internship, you will complete training and advising with Ginsberg Center staff to support professional development.
Core Responsibilities
Support event planning, volunteer coordination, marketing, and onsite logistics for Porter’s Place programming.
Help strengthen partnerships with UM departments, centers, and student organizations.
Develop and facilitate community-aligned workshops connected to the intern’s academic interests or expertise.
Contribute to community resource list, program research, documentation and evaluation.
Preferred qualifications/experience
Preferred qualifications include
Experience in community engagement, social work, education, arts administration, public policy, or related fields.
Strong communication skills
An interest in culturally responsive, community-centered programming.
Because this role is embedded within the Ann Arbor Housing Commission, the intern should also be comfortable working directly with residents in affordable housing communities and supporting programming that reflects their lived experiences, priorities, and cultural histories.

This position is open to Undergraduate and master's students
Timeline/Schedule
8-10 hours per week, September 2026 - April 2027
Hybrid work environment; until the building is finished, the majority of work will be done virtually
Required events include:
Porter’s Place Grand Opening: October 11th 2026
Porter’s Place Board Meetings: Every first Tuesday of the month at 6:30-8:30 pm
Compensation Information
This internship is sponsored by Ginsberg Center's CBI Fund. Once selected, this intern will be hired and paid by the Ginsberg Center.
$17/hr - undergraduate students
$19/hr - master's students
$21/hr - doctoral students
