At United Way, we know that to ensure the future success of our region, we need to support our community’s children now. Access to books is a key part of the equation, as research shows that children with access to ample reading materials have increased literacy at an earlier age and are more prepared for school at all levels.
Thanks to the generosity of the community, we have nearly 9,000 books in storage. Volunteers are needed on April 22, 2026 from 2 – 4 p.m. to sort and organize these books so that they can easily be distributed to schools, community partners, and United Way’s Little Free Libraries throughout the region.
By helping us organize this large collection, volunteers ensure that every child, family, and community partner can quickly access the right books at the right time. Your efforts will directly support literacy programs and keep our Little Free Libraries filled with engaging, age-appropriate books.
Volunteers Will:
- Sort books into clearly marked categories
- Go through books currently in bins to weed out outdated or damaged books
This project is family-friendly, however, a parent or caregiver must complete a volunteer waiver for each minor and remain on-site for the duration of the project to supervise the children in their care.
