The Community Organizing Intern will work with the MHAction Midwest Community Organizer to support local leaders in manufactured housing communities to fight for change. The ideal intern will have strong relational skills and an enthusiasm for building new relationships. They will be comfortable working both independently in a remote setting and as part of a team out in a community. They will have a passion for justice-oriented work and be able to align themselves with MHAction’s Values and Operating Principles.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with MHAction staff and resident leaders to draft personal testimonies that highlight the issues residents face in communities owned and operated by predatory, real estate speculators. These testimonies will be shaped for use on MHAction's online organizing tools (Facebook, Twitter, Action Network, Strive, and website) to support the organization's leadership development and campaign efforts
- Assist in the mobilization of manufactured home residents to lead and participate in housing justice campaign activities and activate community leaders on key racial, social, and economic justice campaigns that have been prioritized by the organization
- Assist in the drafting, formatting, copying, and distributing of documents, including online and offline training materials, newsletters, and publications.
- As directed, attend weekly staff/team meetings. Interns are expected to actively collaborate and participate in a remote staff team environment. This includes attending and preparing for weekly video staff/team meetings and periodic in-person retreats, as well as communicating regularly with other staff members on shared strategies and workplans.
This internship will require travel within the state to manufactured housing communities, and it may offer opportunities for out-of-state travel to MHAction meetings and events. Given the nature of MHAction’s work and organizational model, interns work remotely, generally out of their homes, except when traveling. This internship entails occasional evening and weekend activities.
