Description

Make 2021 the year you help another adult in need by volunteering as a virtual literacy tutor! Learn about opportunities to serve with Oakland Literacy Council by attending this 30-minute online information session. Register here.

The information session is the first step toward becoming a tutor. No prior experience is necessary. Training is provided. Tutors work with U.S.-born or foreign-born adults whose literacy levels are below a 9th grade.

Tutors help students with the tasks of daily reading most of us take for granted, such as prescription labels, workplace memos, and school notes. Tutors who work with English language learners also help with speaking and understanding spoken English. This is a volunteer opportunity where you see the direct impact you're making on the life of another adult!
