Who We Are

A Brighter Way (ABW) is a mentoring program designed to increase self-efficacy, intentional problem solving, and communication skills that promote the stability of the individual by providing quality mentoring for men and women returning to Washtenaw County from incarceration. We seek to create opportunities for the people we serve in the areas of job creation, education, and civic engagement to reinforce these critical learning aspects of the reintegration process. We know that accessible positive social support is foundational to navigating these complicated systems and combating recidivism.

ABW was started by friends with a shared interest in helping people to overcome barriers that they themselves have faced. We are registered as a Michigan non-profit and are operating as a program of Avalon Housing.

We work with individuals in order in increase family and community stability and safety for all.

What We Do

Our primary task is to do one thing well, and that is providing effective mentoring and social support for our participants.

In order to do that, we need a lot of help.

Examples: help with organizing our newsletter, event planning, accounting, marketing, mentors, connections with educational institutions, connections with employment opportunities, data tracking and analysis, graphic design, media management, film production, systems efficiency, *add your idea here*

That list could go on and is not limited to the our posted positions. We are simply looking to provide an effective community-based service.

We are just starting up and can use your expertise, just call or send us an email.

We're looking forward to hearing your ideas.
