Who We Are

Mission: To help other nonprofits in Washtenaw County meet community needs.

Professional Volunteer Corps (PVC) is a membership-based 501(c)(7) nonprofit organization made up of friendly people with varied backgrounds and interests. We lend a helping hand on community projects for local non-profits, and get together for social activities. Members of PVC are 25 years or older and have a desire to make personal contributions of time and energy for the benefit of the community.

To get involved, attend a monthly meeting to learn about upcoming activities. (Meeting details and location are in the right hand column.) Hard copies of the newsletter are available to pick up or sign up to receive it via email.

What We Do

The group provides assistance to non-profit agencies in Washtenaw County who serve the community in the environment, human services, cultural arts, and health areas. PVC works with many organizations, including the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, Washtenaw Literacy, American Cancer Society, Natural Area Preservation, Food Gatherers, and Perry Nursery School.

Members choose from a variety of one-time projects that match their interests and schedules such as silent auction fundraisers, mailings, park maintenance, sorting food, clothes and toys, run and walk events, cooking and serving meals, and ushering for concert performances. Volunteer opportunities are set up on weekends, with an average time commitment of three hours per project.

PVC is a great way to make friends, have fun and help the community at the same time! We offer a wide variety of social activities and lend a helping hand on projects for Ann Arbor area community groups for their events and special occasions. Some of our social activities include:

  • Restaurant Club – Meets monthly, usually on the fourth Friday of the month, except during the holiday season, to try a different restaurant each month.
  • Weekly Walkers – The weekly walkers walk once a week, at a moderate pace for about an hour. The location is based on the season to experience spring flowers, summer ice cream, inside during cold snaps, and so on.
  • PVC Summer Picnic – Pot-luck picnic with burgers and brats provided. Recently we have met at South Lilley Park in early August.
  • Annual Holiday Party – Our December member meeting includes a celebration and gift exchange.
