LAITR has been serving justice-impacted individuals in Washtenaw County since 2020. We are on the mission to improve health, wellness and quality of life for justice-involved individuals. We envision a world where every justice-involved individual has equitable opportunities, including access to occupational therapy, to pursue the lives they want to live.
What We Do
LIfe After Incarceration: Transition and Reentry (LAITR) is a nonprofit that provides community-based occupational therapy services (OT) to individuals who are currently on parole in Washtenaw County. LAITR provides 1:1 and group therapy to habilitate the life skills necessary for a successful reentry into the community. Interventions might target emotional management, financial management, social skills, gainful employment training, or parenting education. Interventions go further than typical class curricula as they individualize cognitive, affective, and physical elements applicable to clients' natural environments. Whereas inequity may foster a cycle of recidivism, LAITR aims to curb the cycle by fostering independence in lieu of ‘touch and go’ resource provision.
