Who We Are

In 1987, AFG began as a community effort to support girls and young women in southwest Detroit. Originally a small, volunteer-run program, operating a five-bed emergency shelter in a neighborhood church, AFG has evolved into a multi-service agency with over 75 employees. For nearly 4 decades, the goal has remained the same: help those experiencing homelessness and other risks avoid violence, early pregnancy, and exploitation.

What We Do

Our mission is to help girls and young women experiencing homelessness and other risks avoid violence, early pregnancy, and exploitation; and help them to explore and access the support, resources, and opportunities necessary to be safe, to grow strong, and to make positive choices for their lives. We serve girls and young women experiencing homelessness and other risks through trauma informed care focusing on: Shelter Housing Stability Workforce Development Youth Programs Human Trafficking Domestic Violence Crisis Support Early Childhood Education
