Who We Are

Mission: To provide the EMU community with food assistance and other resources that promote well-being and support college success!

Swoop’s Food Pantry was founded by students at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) to address food insecurity within the campus community. The organization was created to provide students with access to no-cost food items and resources, aiming to remove the barriers that food insecurity can create for academic success. By being student-founded and student-run, Swoop’s serves the diverse EMU student body, ensuring that everyone, regardless of any circumstances, has access to food assistance in healthy environment.

The pantry supports students facing hunger and to ensure they have the resources to succeed in their academic life. Swoop’s decreases stigma around food insecurity and helps with a sense of empowerment among the students.

What We Do

Swoop’s Food Pantry fulfills its mission by providing no-cost food assistance to students at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). This pantry offers food items that help with dietary needs, preferences, and beliefs of the EMU community, making sure that students can  choose food that suits their needs.

In addition to food, Swoop’s provides educational resources and participates in campus research to raise awareness about food insecurity among students. The pantry focuses on inclusivity, social justice, and sustainability as well.

Swoop’s also empowers students through leadership opportunities, volunteer positions, and employment, encouraging them to contribute to the organization’s efforts while gaining valuable skills. The pantry collaborates with community partners, including local organizations and businesses. Through these, Swoop’s ensures that every student has access to the resources needed to succeed academically and love their time at EMU.
