Who We Are

Mission: To provide programs that guide, support, and empower individuals to achieve self-sufficiency with dignity and hope.

The Chaldean American Ladies of Charity (CALC) was founded in 1961 by 20 refugee and immigrant women seeking to support other newcomers in rebuilding their lives. CALC has since grown from an all-volunteer agency into a robust organization providing wrap-around social services. In 2016, the Board adopted the name United Community Family Services (UCFS) to represent our goal of supporting the broader community as a whole. Over 60 years since its founding, UCFS continues to carry out its mission of providing programs that guide, support, and empower individuals to achieve self-sufficiency with dignity and hope.

What We Do

UCFS supports families holistically with wrap-around services so that they can thrive in every area of their life. Our focus areas that offer volunteer opportunities include:

  • Food Pantry – Combatting food insecurity by distributing boxes of food to clients on a monthly basis
  • Sharehouse Basic Needs Center – Providing basic needs for newly arrived refugees
  • Project Achievement – Providing weekly after-school tutoring to the children that we serve
