Who We Are

Mission: To provide services, advocacy, fun, and connection to LGBTQ+ folks ages 45+.

Michigan LGBTQ+ Elders Network (MiGEN) was first established as Gay Elders of Metro Detroit in 2007, and then as SAGE Metro Detroit when it became a chapter of the national SAGE organization in 2009. In 2021, MiGEN disaffiliated from SAGE National when the national organization determined that its current model of local affiliates did not provide enough flexibility for the organization to meet its mission. Thus, SAGE Metro Detroit became MiGEN in late 2022 and is undergoing a redevelopment of its brand – but not its services. MiGEN is Michigan’s only nonprofit dedicated exclusively to caring for LGBTQ+ older adults; the organization serves as an advocacy and service partner that’s been looking out for LGBTQ+ elders for over 15 years.
