Who We Are

Mission: To enrich the human spirit through the presentation, preservation and encouragement of folk, roots and ethnic music and related arts.

The Ark is Michigan’s nonprofit home for folk and roots music. Considered one of the top music clubs in the world, The Ark is renowned for the quality and breadth of its programming. The Ark is an intimate 400-seat club presenting performers ranging from young up-and-comers to classic figures of the folk genre. With live music over 300 nights each year in one of the best listening rooms anywhere, The Ark is a sure bet for a memorable evening of enriching entertainment, musical artistry, and personal warmth.

What We Do

At The Ark, we take seriously our role as part of a larger musical community. We nurture rising artists, we listen to the wisdom (and the humor) of those who’ve been around for awhile, and, frankly, we’re not afraid to present music that you just won’t hear anywhere else. The Ark provides a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all people to listen to, learn about, perform, and share music. The Ark is committed to presenting performers throughout the entire arc of their career. We introduce emerging artists and celebrate acoustic music’s elite.
