Who We Are

Mission: To promote solidarity among Parkside residents, build the self-esteem of youth, offer educational and employment resources, and enhance the health and well-being of the community.

The Friends Of Parkside (FOP) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, community-based organization located on Detroit’s east side in The Villages at Parkside, formerly Parkside Homes, a public housing complex. FOP was incorporated in March of 1991 by Parkside residents. FOP views itself as a member of this community and serves as a link between Parkside residents and the larger eastside community. FOP believes that whatever happens in or around The Villages at Parkside affects each of us and that residents working together with other community stakeholders can and will change things for the better.

What We Do

The Friends Of Parkside is established to promote solidarity among Parkside residents; help build the self-esteem of youth residents; offer educational and employment-related resources to the community, and promote the health and well-being of residents. To accomplish its goals, FOP focuses on the following areas: youth and family support, volunteer and workforce development, computer technology, community health and safety, and community organizing and advocacy.
