Who We Are
Mission: To tend to people’s basic needs, especially the need for food
Founded in 1929, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen serves Metro Detroit by providing food, clothing, and human development programs to the people of our community. We also strive to stimulate minds, nourish spirits, and address root causes of social injustice.
What We Do
The Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit provides compassionate care and essential services to individuals and families facing poverty. We offer:
- Meal Programs – Our Conner and Meldrum sites serve free, nutritious meals daily to anyone in need—no questions asked.
- Emergency Assistance – The Capuchin Services Center provides a grocery-style food pantry, clothing, appliances, and case management to over 228,000 Detroiters each year.
- Earthworks Urban Farm – This 1.25-acre organic farm promotes food justice and environmental stewardship through hands-on education and sustainable agriculture.
- Youth Programs – The Rosa Parks Children & Youth Program offers after-school tutoring, art therapy, seasonal family events, and summer camps to foster creativity, leadership, and nonviolence.
We also provide employment readiness support, mental health and substance use programs, and spiritual care. Through all of our services, we aim to nourish the body, nurture the spirit, and build a more just and compassionate community.
