Volunteer: Tutors needed for reading with elementary studentsThe Family Learning Institute (FLI) is seeking adult volunteer tutors to work with students in grades 2 - 5. FLI tutoring happens both in-person and virtual, with on-line Zoom meetings and Google classroom curriculum. Tutoring happens for at least one hour, each week, after school. The commitment begins in October and ends in May. - It is nearly a full school year. Students are from economically disadvantaged households in Washtenaw County. The key is individualized tutoring. Volunteer tutors provide the students with individual attention and a mentor type relationship. FLI tutoring focuses on building academic skills. FLI programs meet weekly during the school year. Students are enrolled by referral from educators and parents. FLI also provides academic tutoring for local summer programs. Reading (literacy) tutoring occurs for 1-hour sessions on Monday - Thursdays between 4:00 - 6:00 pm, during the school year. Tutoring usually happens at the FLI office and in a variety of local school sites and community locations in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor. There are also some day time tutoring opportunities during the summer months.Holidays and days off follow the Ann Arbor Public School calendar. Can't make a weekly commitment? No worries!
