Waypoint Outreach Initiative is seeking dependable and compassionate volunteers to support community members through peer encouragement, resource navigation, outreach activities, workshops, and appropriate follow-up.

Volunteers may help individuals identify local services related to housing, food, recovery, mental health, transportation, identification documents, veterans’ resources, legal-service referrals, employment, and other basic needs.

Depending on experience and availability, volunteers may also assist with community events, outreach supply distribution, informational tables, resource-guide updates, partnership development, and follow-up communication.

This is not a clinical, counseling, emergency-response, or legal-advice position. Volunteers will receive guidance on confidentiality, professional boundaries, safety, referrals, and Waypoint procedures.

Responsibilities may include:

• Providing respectful peer encouragement and practical resource information
• Assisting with outreach events, workshops, and community tables
• Helping maintain accurate community-resource information
• Communicating appropriately with community members and partner organizations
• Documenting volunteer activities when required
• Following confidentiality, safety, and professional-boundary expectations

Students and community members interested in social work, public health, psychology, criminal justice, nonprofit administration, veterans’ services, recovery support, human services, or community engagement are encouraged to apply.

Lived experience is welcomed but not required. Volunteers should be reliable, nonjudgmental, respectful of diverse backgrounds, and comfortable supporting people experiencing difficult circumstances.

Waypoint Outreach Initiative is seeking compassionate and dependable volunteers to help develop and support Waypoint Forward, a community-based project focused on women returning to Washtenaw County after incarceration.

Volunteers will help build practical systems, strengthen community partnerships, research resources, and prepare the program to support future participants with dignity, respect, and individualized assistance.

Responsibilities may include:

• Researching housing, employment, education, healthcare, transportation, identification, legal-service, and family-support resources
• Helping maintain and update women’s reentry resource guides
• Assisting with outreach to community organizations and referral partners
• Supporting the development of referral, intake, follow-up, and volunteer procedures
• Helping prepare workshops, informational materials, and community events
• Participating in planning meetings and project discussions
• Providing appropriate peer encouragement when trained and assigned
• Following confidentiality, safety, and professional-boundary expectations

Students and community members interested in social work, criminal justice, law, public health, psychology, women’s studies, nonprofit administration, public policy, or community advocacy are encouraged to apply.

Lived experience with incarceration, reentry, recovery, or supporting an impacted family member is welcomed but not required. Volunteers should be respectful, reliable, nonjudgmental, inclusive, and able to maintain confidentiality.
