Volunteer: Virtual Literacy Mentor for Center for Success Network

Volunteer mentors are the foundation of Center for Success Network. Volunteers are asked to attend a 90-minute mentor training, complete a volunteer application that includes a background check, and participate in a 2-hour Mentoring for Equity Workshop.  Mentors are then paired with a student from one of our 12 locations across Southeast Michigan. Mentors are currently virtual only and are given all the resources they’ll need to run a successful session with their student.  Mentoring sessions take place on zoom and are 30 - 45 minutes long and include 4 parts - energize and goal setting, reading a book, literacy activity, and closing and reflection. Experienced staff from Center for Success Network host sessions and provide assistance and support during and after sessions to accommodate every mentor.

There are two ways to mentor - consistently or and as a substitute. As a consistent mentor, we would pair you with a student, so you meet with the same student each week.  As a substitute, you would mentor on a periodic basis with various students as your schedule allows and as need arises - like if a student's mentor was sick and you indicated you may be available, we would reach out to see if you could mentor that session!

Program starts October 2023 and goes until May 2024  If you are interested in becoming a virtual mentor, please fill out this volunteer form here or if you have questions please email volunteer@center4success.org
