As a Community we rely heavily on our volunteers for periodic events such as our annual resource fair, mentee activities such as moves, or small community events that we have regularly. The more people we have active in our community the more needs we can address.  

Trucks are a valuable commodity (as are those who drive them). Occasionally, we have an opportunity or need that requires the bed of a truck and we currently have little or no capability of addressing these opportunities or needs. This would only be an occasional request with no specific expectations of commitment, simply a willingness to help when possible.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Washtenaw Area Council for Children (WACC). We have a specific focus on preventing child abuse and neglect through our educational services and programs which target everyone in our community: children, teens, parents, and community members. We partner with youth-serving professionals throughout Washtenaw County to build a safer tomorrow. With your help as a volunteer, we can continue providing our services to the area.

The Events Committee at WACC is a group of individuals from the Washtenaw County Community who meet monthly to plan and discuss our three yearly events. The volunteer we are seeking for the committee can either participate fully attending all meetings and gatherings throughout the year, or they can assist with planning just one of the annual events. The position is ongoing, and you would be committing to a 2-3 hours per month. This position will be heavily focused on community outreach for the events, so the ability to network and talk with a variety of people and businesses is a must. 

We are currently looking for someone who can help coordinate events alongside our board member who is currently serving on this committee. This person would need have excellent communication skills, event planning experience, and the ability to coordinator with other board members, volunteers, and staff in the event planning process. We need someone committed to our vision of child abuse prevention and showing our vision through our events. We love planning fun events throughout the community, so good community ties would be excellent but not required.

Detroit VITALS (Virtual Intersystem Telemedicine and Lifestyle Services) free clinic is seeking volunteers to apply for the Board of Directors Treasurer position for our organization!  

The Treasurer shall be a director of the free clinic and shall report the clinic financial status to the Board of Directors at each regular meeting. The Treasurer shall work closely with any board or committee member of Detroit VITALS to ascertain that the appropriate procedures are being followed in the financial affairs of the Corporation. The Treasurer shall perform such other duties as requested and assigned by the Board of Directors such as managing the Board’s review of, and action related to, the board’s financial responsibilities, managing the finances of Detroit VITALS, administration of fiscal matters for Detroit VITALS and providing the annual budget to the Board for approval. The Treasurer is also responsible for providing the Board with reports regarding key financial events, trends, concerns, and assessment of fiscal health.  The Treasurer will also recommend to the board whether the organization should have an audit, and if so, will select and meet with the auditor.

Lastly, if the Board President, Vice President and Secretary are unable to perform the duties of the Board President the Treasurer shall assume the role of Board President. Term limits will likely initially be one to three years. We are looking for persons with one of the following: extensive leadership experience, demonstrated success as a committee chair or board member, and/or experience in building nonprofit sectors.

All board of directors will be expected to follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions.  They will also be required to sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings.  Lastly, all board of directors will be required to maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of Detroit VITALS free clinic.

We are looking for any and all individuals to assist in the creation of a novel new Telemedicine Project called Detroit VITALS free clinic (Virtual Intersystem Telemedicine And Lifestyle Services)!  

We are looking for any and all level of interest at this point and from any/all career perspectives ranging from Social Work, Information technology to Health care and Allied professions.  We are very much looking for other Physicians and Health Providers who may be interested in volunteering for a few hours or more a month from the safety of your home!  We are also strongly interested in Social workers and Mental health therapists or Psychiatrists.  All appointments, meetings and interventions will be done online and can be done from the safety of your home.  Safety is our number one priority while still providing access to Healthcare. 

At Detroit VITALS, we believe Healthcare is not a privilege but a right and we need your help to make this a reality!! 

Our goal will be to start providing primary care and limited specialty services by the end of winter of 2022 to persons without health insurance in Wayne, Washtenaw and Oakland counties (Metro-Detroit).  We will start teaching and working with volunteers likely prior to the end of 2022.  

Shifts are still being worked out in conjunction with operating hours which are subject to change.  Currently, there will be expected 1 shift per month and 1 shift as a back up person.  Tentatively the clinic (when open) will be seeing patients from 5 pm to 8 pm hours Tuesday thru Thursday (3 hour shifts).

Hello and welcome to the Detroit VITALS (Virtual Intersystem Telemedicine And Lifestyle Services) project!  

We are working with our planning committee to begin possibly the first ever Telemedicine based (online only) free clinic  and are looking for anyone interested in helping! We are looking to get the clinic operational by the end of the winter of 2022 and are looking for volunteers to help us make this a reality.

We will continue to be holding weekly meetings at Wednesday evenings on Zoom to create content and plan for the grand opening of the Detroit VITALS free telemedicine clinic!  General planning committee meetings will be one hour per week and members will be expected hour contributions are 3-5 hours per week on average currently with select committees (Networking, Educational Content, Workflow, Social Media, Website development, Advertising and Human resources/volunteer management).  

We are looking for anyone interested in assisting in helping plan out and develop plans/strategies for the new clinic as we get the clinic off the ground (goal Winter of 2022).

This program is a partnership with St. Joseph Mercy Cancer Care Center in Ann Arbor and the American Cancer Society. Volunteers will spend time in the cancer center talking with patients and families spreading the word about services offered by CSC and other support available through the health system. Volunteers will be trained and will be able to answer questions and provide tours of the Cancer Center.

Facility Greeters help create an inclusive home away from home atmosphere with a friendly smile and warm welcome to all arriving at the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor. Greeters answer phones, give tours of the facility and help staff manage projects as needed. Committment ranges from once a month to once a week depending on interest and availability.

Six times a year we publish and distribute our program calendar so that people affected by cancer and the medical community are updated on our activities. 

Ambassadors are our calendar delivery volunteers who help distribute calendars to medical facilities, clinics, and community agencies in our area along with restocking marketing materials such as brochures and calendars. They check the quantity provided as well as discard any outdated materials to assure timely information of CSC services.

In addition, Ambassadors focus on developing and maintaining relationships with professionals for increased awareness of, and referrals to CSC. Individuals must be able to articulate and champion the mission of CSC, answer questions and enjoy getting out in the community and meeting people. Training provided.

Throughout the year, The Cancer Support Community sets up information booths at various health fairs and community educational events. Volunteers set up the booth, pass out literature, and talk about services. These volunteers are placed on a list and called as needed.

A Girl Like Me Inc has a ongoing need for volunteers to help sort donations before they are distributed to those in need.

Volunteers can help out Monday through Friday between 10:00am and 4:00pm - timing is flexible!

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Earthworks! We are seeking dependable individuals to assist us with various tasks to help us maintain our gardens. Volunteers help with weeding, harvesting, garden bed prepping, planting and general garden maintenance.

The type of volunteer work we have may depend on many variables such as the time of year, weather, size, and age of the group or otherwise. As such, it's difficult to share what exactly volunteers will be doing on a particular date.

In general, some of those things may include:

In other words, manual labor that includes lifting, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, turning, shoveling, raking, etc. Caution may be required when working or walking on ground that is loose, uneven or slippery.

Volunteering at Earthworks is a great way to help our cause of growing food sustainably for our community, as well as, restore our connection to the environment. It is also a way for you to learn new skills, meet new people and make a difference.

We are hosting volunteers Wednesday - Friday from 9 am - 11 am and 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm.

New volunteers that are interested in volunteering with Earthworks Urban Farm should register as a user via Volunteer Hub and when asked for affiliations should check "I am interested in Earthworks Urban Farm". First-time volunteers are not required to go through a background check. If you enjoy your experience after volunteering for the first-time and would like to continue volunteering, you will have to complete a background check. This process is mandatory for returning first-time volunteers. It is an easy process and free of charge to you. The results should take about 1-2 days. If you are approved to volunteer again, you would be able to schedule to volunteer.

We are a small, faith-based non-profit working to alleviate severe acute malnutrition— and address some of the causes that lead to it— in the country of Haiti. We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Social Media/Marketing intern who can help us communicate and connect with our donor base, which is primarily in the U.S. This position will be fully remote and can be done from anywhere that has reliable internet access. As a Social Media Marketing intern, you will work closely with our staff in Haiti to create social media content that shares the stories of children and families in our programs. You will also have a role in planning and gathering information for newsletters, and assisting in brainstorming and executing new and exciting fundraising initiatives. Your core responsibilities are well scheduled, but you will have opportunities to do something different nearly every day as you dive into our various programs and events!

We are looking for volunteers to join our "Serve Our Seniors" mission. In this program, we shop for household cleaning supplies and offer a safe deliver to their doorstep. We, also, issue food boost cards for our seniors in need. (This program will resume with upcoming funding source, but we're gathering names now)

We are currently looking for volunteers to be tech trainers for our Senior Tech Program. We have a curriculum that includes 5 lessons. We teach seniors in a group setting or one to one trainings. The Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) Caregiver Coaching Program is a free program that provides mentorship and support for family caregivers. We match people who are caring for an aging or disabled loved one with a compassionate, trained volunteer for one-to-one support. Coaches help identify needs and obstacles, explore and select options, offer encouragement, and strive to build a safe and supportive environment.  

  The program is designed to meet the needs of caregivers. There is no requirement for a certain number of communications or a specified structure or timeline. Caregivers typically speak with coaches twice a month over the phone, but every caregiver's needs are different. Coaches schedule calls in collaboration with their caregivers. 

 The AAA 1-B is actively seeking volunteers to enroll as Caregiver Coaches, as well as caregivers interested in participating in the program. St Joseph Mercy hospice is seeking Veteran Volunteers in Livingston County to provide companionship for our Veteran Patients.

This companionship can come in many forms such as reminiscing/ telling life stories, taking Part in pinning ceremonies and assist with VA resources.

We do require background checks , fingerprints and Tb testing, all of which are paid for by St Joes.

We provide  orientation and specialized training for Vet to Vet visits as well.

St. Joseph Mercy Hospice is seeking caring and compassionate people to join our Hospice Team as Volunteers. We are seeking volunteers in Livingston, Washtenaw, Oakland, and Wayne Counties.

Hospice Volunteers provide support to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses.

Patient and Family support may come in the form of companionship, comforting presence, caregiver relief, light household chores, or vigil volunteering.

Group will provide dinner (Pizza and snacks) and play games with children.

We are looking for a volunteer presenter that is willing to work with us long term. Our current staff member is going on maternity leave at the end of April, and we would love to have someone to help coordinate and fill in the gaps with presentations.

You will be giving presentations to children ages 3 yrs old through 2nd grade, on safety, including personal safety in a short (15 min) program over a series of 10 days.

Must be available days and be willing to submit to a background check. Flexible hours - approx. 5-10 hours a week (dependent on the schools’ schedules), but for each group of children you are presenting the program to, you must be able to commit to 10 consecutive days. We serve several schools and preschools throughout the year. You do not have to commit to being the presenter for all of these, but we would like you to be able to present to a least one school a year. We will provide you with the necessary training, materials, and support to provide this program.

Some support is needed to fix webhooks, ensure integration with plugins and other external apps are functioning properly, Anti-spam is set, and general clean up. The website was created by someone with minimal experience in website creation, but website is fully functioning and creator would love to work alongside volunteer.

WTPOF is looking for an individual who has experience and managing social media accounts and can implement our social media content strategy with minimal supervision in a remote capacity. Ideally, this same individual also has experience in updating and maintaining a WordPress website and can provide intermittent support integrating/maintaining plug-ins and overall design.

Do you like to plan parties or have great ideas to make money.  The Ypsilanti Senior Center is looking for some energetic people that like fundraising.  We would like to develop teams that can help create, plan and execute several fundraisers per year.  Times and days are negotiable.  

We can't keep up with our membership, donor and mailing lists.  We could use someone to come in and update our files each week.  3-4 hours/ per week.  Times and days are negotiable.  

Our House is building a unique, integrated model to support youth typically lacking the experience of growing up with significant adults in their lives. Through individual and group mentoring, life skills training, camp retreats, employment training, and supportive housing options, Our House builds upon each component to help assure successful outcomes as youth transition to adulthood.

Our Mentors are instrumental in fulfilling Our House’s goal of propelling youth to reach their full potential and equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to function independently and contribute to society. They must possess a sincere desire to be personally involved with another person to help him or her achieve personal and career goals. Mentors will develop supportive relationships with foster care youth participating in the Our House programs and aid them through emotional support and social and recreational development. The Mentor provides caring companionship to supplement the work of parents, teachers, counselors, social workers and other social services and education professionals. 

Each Mentor will be provided with initial training before working with youth and ongoing support throughout the program. The average Mentor will put in approximately 6 to 12 hours each month in services to our youth. This commitment may come in larger or smaller doses, but the Mentor must be consistent. While Mentors may serve longer than one year, the minimum expectation of any Mentor will be one year.

The Washtenaw County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is not currently looking for new volunteers (medical and non-medical) to be trained to help the Washtenaw County Health Department. Provides care to three elderly women in a home setting.  Duties include companionship, presence, assisting with meals, dressing really anything a person might to to assist their parents or grandparents.  Caregivers are asked to serve a scheduled shift 3 times each month.  Shifts are three or four hours long.  Our greatest need is for help evenings and weekends.

We are looking for caring female to join our all volunteer caregiving team looking after the needs of three elderly ladies.  In exchange for this service, the right candidate will live in the house free of charge.  Includes private bedroom, shared bath and living space. 

Live in caregivers are available to help the residents overnight, and provide back up on weekends.  If all is well, you can sleep when the residents sleep.  Most caregivers make it home, taking classes or working.

The Family Learning Institute (FLI) is seeking adult volunteer tutors  to work with students in grades 2 - 5.

FLI tutoring happens both in-person and virtual, with on-line Zoom meetings and Google classroom curriculum.

Tutoring happens for at least one hour, each week, after school. The commitment begins in October and ends in May.

- It is nearly a full school year.

Every year, FLI helps elementary school students improve their reading comprehension and critical thinking.

Students are from economically disadvantaged households in Washtenaw County.

The key is individualized tutoring.   Volunteer tutors provide the students with individual attention and a mentor type relationship.

FLI tutoring focuses on building academic skills.  FLI programs meet weekly during the school year.

Students are enrolled by referral from educators and parents. FLI also provides academic tutoring for local summer programs. 

Holidays and days off follow the Ann Arbor Public School calendar.

Have a spare bedroom and looking to make a positive impact on your community? YOU can address youth homelessness in Washtenaw County by opening your heart and home to a young person experiencing housing instability!

Host Homes is a short-term housing support program that matches volunteer hosts in the community with a young adult (18-25 years old) who has experienced foster care. Our House participants will reside with their host family for up to six months rent free while they work on their self-identified goals, saving money, and learning independent living skills.

Host families will receive trauma-informed care training and on-going support from Our House staff. Hosts will provide basic household necessities (i.e. toilet paper, soap) and have the option of receiving a monthly stipend. The young person you are hosting will continue to work with their mentor and Our House staff to develop a case plan so they can successfully transition from your home into independent living.

Host Homes at their core are about connecting people with people and facilitating a neighbor-to-neighbor interim solution to youth homelessness. Host Homes put the "village" in "it takes a village". This community-driven, youth-centered program will play a critical role in addressing the youth homelessness for Our House participants by mobilizing community resources and caring adults to demonstrate to our youth that their community cares about them!

The Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) launched the Caregiver Coaching program in Livingston and Washtenaw counties in 2020. In 2021, the program expanded into Macomb and Oakland counties in 2021. Caregiver Coaching is a free program that matches people caring for an aging or disabled loved one with a compassionate, trained volunteer who works with them one-on-one.  Depending on the caregivers' needs, volunteer coaches can be guides, sounding boards, researchers, cheerleaders, encouragers, calmer-downers, or lifter-uppers. The volunteer coaches strive to build a safe and supportive environment where they walk beside you on the caregiving journey.

The program is built around caregivers' needs. There is no minimum number of communications required and no specific structure or schedule.  Typically, you will meet with your coach over the phone once a month, but every caregiver has different needs. Some caregivers want someone to talk to regularly, while others want support in creating to-dos or sorting through resource lists. There is no right or wrong way. The coaches are here to support you.

Since 1994, LGBT Detroit has a significant history in voter engagement. Candidate forums (Mayoral, Gubernatorial and State Congressional), voter registration drives and voter education events have largely occurred during LGBT Detroit’s annual 25 year old flagship gay, pride project Hotter Than July. As Detroit looks towards the upcoming local election cycle in the fall, LGBT Detroit continues the non-partisan comprehensive voter engagement and legislative program, Pride Decides. Piloted during the previous national election cycle, LGBT Detroit partnered with and was supported by Michigan Voices, ACLU of Michigan, Planned Parenthood of Michigan, and Black Voters Matter. In zip codes 48221 and 48235, the program made over 60,000 voter contacts in the summer and fall of 2020 to ensure voters were educated on how they could participate in the general election. The program was so successful that a note of thanks was sent to the agency from President Joe Biden for the work completed during the election cycle. In 2021 Pride Decides aims to re-engage voters in the upcoming City of Detroit local elections. Within the COVID-19 pandemic, activities for the program will be a hybrid of virtual and in person activities. Core activities include voter education, voter registration, phone banking, and the practice of ensuring voter participation in any election.

Our Free Store in Brightmoor (Detroit - 96 & Outer Drive) is open every Saturday morning.  We are looking for volunteers to help during our Free Store hours - assist clients while shopping, restock shelves, etc.  The Free Store is open from 8:30am - 11:30am (approx)

NECHAMA recovery teams help impacted families salvage personal belongings, remove damaged materials of homes, and begin the process of rebuilding. In the first two weeks of disaster response, NECHAMA donated nearly 800 hours of labor and helped families in 20 homes.

Once you complete the form at the link above, NECHAMA will  connect with you to provide the necessary paperwork to complete ahead of your volunteer service, as well as provide details about current Covid protocols and other information.

NECHAMA volunteers work Mondays through Saturdays from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Once you sign up, NECHAMA will work with volunteers to identify a good schedule. Volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. NECHAMA will provide gloves, masks, and eye protection.

New volunteers meet one-on-one with the Assistant Director or Director who will explain the position, assess the appropriateness of the volunteer match, and provide training in the position.

Finally, the new volunteer takes a regular shift with supervision by the volunteer coordinator.

Two meetings are held annually to update all the volunteers on new programs and procedures, to get their suggestions, and to give additional information on issues like safety and community resources.

NPower creates pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for military veterans and young adults from underserved communities.

NPower's programming is completely free to trainees and consists of 16 weeks of in-classroom sessions (currently virtual), followed by a 7-week paid internship in a relevant field. Trainees leave the program with CompTIA certification, ready for free entry-level positions in IT across Southeastern Michigan.

BACK 2 SCHOOL PULL-UP Tour - We here at the Detroit Housing Commission know in these uncertain circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are all unsure about what reopening schools may look like. Whether its virtual, or in –person learning, D.H.C. Resident Services Department wants to assist and relieve some of the burdens of having to purchase school supplies and PPE items this year. Unfortunately, there are no dedicated funds to support many of the fantastic programs and services offered by DHC. However, each year, Detroit Housing Commission continues to provide successful events with the wonderful support of numerous service providers and organizations such as yourself, that have contributed by volunteering and/or sponsorship. To continue our mission and have another successful event, we need your help! We are requesting the following contributions: 

• School Supplies: Backpacks, Notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, rulers, etc.

• PPE- Children & Adult Facemasks, Children & Adult face shields, Hand Sanitizers, Kleenex

• Devices- Tablets/ Computers

• Household Cleaning Supplies- Bleach, Disinfectant wipes sprays, toilet paper, paper towel, etc.

As a volunteer, you will work alongside our highly skilled doctors, researchers, nurse navigators and other healthcare specialists to play a vital role in providing world class cancer care to thousands of patients each year.

As a Patient Guide, you will be responsible for greeting all patients & guests as they enter the Bridgette Harris Cancer Pavilion and escorting them to their destination when needed. Patient Guides are the first people that Henry Ford Cancer Institute guests encounter, so if you’re friendly and enjoy providing great customer service, this is the role for you!

This position is stationed in the Brigitte Harris Cancer Pavilion located at 2800 W Grand Blvd, Detroit, MI. Please note that this location is scheduled to open January 2021. We are actively enrolling volunteers to begin their role in January 2021.

Whatever the duration, Infusion Clinic volunteers play a key role in keeping patients comfortable by providing entertainment, conversation, light snacks or a warm blanket. Pharmacy Assistants help patients get the medication they need by delivering filled prescriptions to patient rooms throughout the Brigitte Harris Cancer Pavilion. This position works closely with the pharmacy staff and is perfect for someone with an interest in pharmaceutical sciences.
