The stewardship crews are the go-to team for any challenge facing the Refuge. Volunteers are invited to assist with a variety of habitat management activities including invasive species control (mowing, herbicide application, tree and brush cutting with hand saws and loppers), seed collecting/handling/broadcasting, and occasional assistance with water level management.

Stewardship crews also perform a variety of visitor services-focused tasks including trail creation and maintenance, kiosk construction, and interpretive signage repairs. This type of work requires heavy physical labor in natural areas and in challenging environments. Participants must be in good physical condition.

All necessary tools are provided.

Age Requirement: Age 16 years old and up (all minors must be accompanied by a guardian). For safety purposes, minors will never be allowed to work alone or with just one other volunteer, unless it is their guardian. Minors are not permitted to drive refuge vehicles.    

The Refuge hosts a variety of events throughout the year varying in themes and activities. As an event volunteer you will educate the public about the refuge, nature, wildlife conservation, and recreational opportunities. Main duties include staffing a variety of educational booths, children’s craft activities, and informational tables at acquaint event attendees with the refuge. They also may include set up and take down of event space.

The local American Lung Association office in Southfield, MI has volunteer opportunities for small groups a few times a month. Typically these opportunities are in the afternoon after school, in the early evening, or sometimes a few on Saturdays - late morning/early afternoon. Your group size should be between 2-5 students per shift.

This is perfect for students who are looking for service hours to complete their graduation or program requirements. The annual Turquoise Takeover and Lung Cancer Action Week celebration unites America to stand together against lung cancer. Each year in May, we turn the nation our signature color - turquoise - to inspire action and save more lives.

The LUNG FORCE Turquoise Takeover Volunteer Committee will be lending a hand to organize engagement and activities for Lung Cancer Action Week in conjunction with our local LUNG FORCE Walk event. A Child Passenger Safety Advocate is a passionate and dedicated individual committed to promoting and ensuring the safety of children during car travel. They play a vital role in raising awareness about the importance of proper car seat usage and advocating for best practices in child passenger safety. These advocates are knowledgeable about car seat installation, age-appropriate restraints, and the latest safety guidelines. They work closely with parents, caregivers, and community organizations to provide education, resources, and support, empowering them to make informed decisions to protect their children. Child Passenger Safety Advocates strive to create a safer environment for all children on the road, reducing the risk of injuries and saving lives.

Conversations to Remember is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated towards combating loneliness and isolation felt by senior citizens. Our virtual visit program matches 2-3 college students with residents of long-term care, assisted living, and memory care communities for virtual video visits. These residents have been suffering from isolation, and you could really brighten their days just by speaking with them. We provide training about the best ways to interact with the seniors, as well as additional support throughout our volunteers' service. Since these visits are virtual, you can do it without any travel. This is both convenient, and allows more time to be spent volunteering, rather than commuting to the volunteering location. We provide this program free of charge to seniors across the country, and have students from around the country as well. 

Typically, students volunteer 1-2 hours per week. Each call lasts up to one hour, based on the senior's attention span and mood on each day. We expect students to volunteer for approximately 16 weeks, so that they can build a friendship with the senior. This does not need to coincide with the start of a semester, as we have new seniors starting all the time, and train new volunteers weekly. The students are matched based on the times that they're available, with a senior who is available at the same time, and they will have a regular, weekly appointment for their visit. Students wishing for more visits or other opportunities that allow them to volunteer more hours can be accommodated with different ways to volunteer, such as assisting us with our social media, call support, or outreach.

Hire MI Vet (HMV) is one of the premier Veteran service organizations in the greater Southeast Michigan area. Wayne County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) provides a voice for abused and neglected children in Juvenile Court proceedings through highly trained community volunteers. We believe every child in Wayne County deserves a safe and permanent home, where they can thrive. And we believe every child should have the opportunity to grow and develop into a contributing member of our community. 

CASA volunteer advocates are ordinary people, just like you, with an extraordinary desire to help children. After completing a CASA training course, CASA volunteers are appointed by a jurist to one case involving a child or set of siblings who have experienced abuse and neglect, and placed in the foster care system. A CASA volunteer gathers information to help identify the child’s needs, present written reports at court hearings, help the child understand court proceedings, recommend services and more—all to help the judge make the best decisions to guide the child out of the foster care system and into a safe, permanent home. CASA volunteers must be 21 years or older, pass an extensive screening and background check, and have the ability to commit 10-20 hours a month to the case.

The Hire MI Vet Mentorship Program provides individualized career readiness support for Veterans, focusing on resumes, cover letters, networking, interviewing, elevator speech, and job search assistance. This volunteer position will consist of creating/updating resumes for Veterans in SE Michigan and NW Ohio. The work will be done virtually. Military skills and experience need to be translated into a civilian resume. It would be helpful to have a familiarity with USAJOBS.gov but not necessary.

The Education Project (TEP) is a non-profit aligned under Humanity First USA that helps 600+ K-12 students get free virtual tutoring in under-resourced communities across the nation. Casa Amiga is looking for tutors interested in helping students finish their GED. All of our courses are in Spanish,  necessary to be fluent Spanish, committed volunteer tutors to help with 2 hours a day, once a week. Educators with a passion for working  students from diverse educational, racial, economic, geographic, and cultural backgrounds

Become a tutor for a Pontiac student in grades 1-8.  Tutors work 1:1 in a classroom setting, focusing upon basic reading and math skills and homework.  Each student has a binder of work tailored to their needs to support learning on a daily basis.  Tutors typically volunteer for one hour/week, Tuesday - Thursday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 171 West Pike, Pontiac.  We will run a background check following application.

We need a smile at our front desk.  The receptionist greats the participants that arrive at the center checks them in and helps them as needed.  They also will answer the phone and direct the calls to the appropriate person.  This is a friendly place to work and volunteer.  Our hours right now are M - F 9am - 2pm.  Volunteers can work one day a week or more.  

Do you love to share your love of art?  We have a small group of older adults that would love to learn from you.  We have lots of supplies to work with.  We meet one day a week (Friday afternoons) for 1.5 hours.  

We serve hot meals Mondays - Fridays that are delivered from a caterer.  We need someone to receive and temp the meals, keep them at the correct temp, serve and clean up. The volunteer could work one day a week or all 5 days.  

We help people affected by disasters ranging from home fires to hurricanes by providing food, shelter, clothing, comfort and hope. Each year, volunteers respond to approx. 2,300 local disaster across the state of Michigan.

What Is It?

Hope Not Handcuffs is an initiative started by Families Against Narcotics (FAN), aimed at bringing law enforcement and community organizations together in an effort to find viable treatment options for individuals seeking help to reduce dependency with heroin, prescription drugs, and alcohol. It is a solution.

How It Works

A person struggling with any substance use disorder can come to any of the participating police agencies and ask for help. They will be greeted with support, compassion, and respect. If accepted into the program*, the individual will be guided through a brief intake process to ensure proper treatment placement.
 
If a person is uninsured or has Medicaid, we will work directly with the local Office of Substance Abuse Services for placement. If a person has private insurance, we will provide them with treatment options covered by their plan. Regardless, our team will work to get them into treatment as soon as possible. We have more than 600 volunteer Angels, and one of them will help with paperwork and provide compassionate support until a treatment option is found.

We are looking for volunteers that are interested in doing some sweat work with getting our garden space and surrounding grounds ready for the new planting season. We will be moving planting boxes, digging new beds directly in the ground, painting, etc. If you have tools (shovels, hay forks, gloves, etc., please feel free to bring them with you). 

Volunteer with the Medicare and Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP) at The Senior Alliance!  MMAP is a free, unbiased, volunteer-staffed service which assists Medicare beneficiaries who have problems or questions about Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicare Part D enrollment and related issues. MMAP provides these services free of charge for western and downriver Wayne County residents through our Area Agency on Aging Region 1-C.  We are seeking to increase our volunteer team and we are requesting your help to spread the word about our upcoming MMAP orientation and training classes.

The ideal MMAP volunteer is someone who enjoys learning, likes meeting new people, has some experience using computers and loves challenges. MMAP counseling services can be provided to callers over the phone, virtually or at specific sites in the community, such as senior centers.  MMAP volunteers may assist older adults or individuals with a disability by helping to resolve problems and answer questions, explaining eligibility requirements, assisting in filling out forms or filing appeals, and resolving billing problems, among other issues. Last year, we worked with thousands of local residents and saved them hundreds of thousands of dollars.  

Training begins with a MMAP Orientation meeting and continues with online training, mentoring and assistance.  One-hour MMAP Orientations are conducted the first Thursday of each month virtually at 11:00 a.m.

You will shadow refuge park ranger at speaking locations until ready to present programs independently. There is a preexisting PowerPoint that you will use once you present independently.

We have 12 rooms that are in need of masking tape or prep painting tape to ensure a clean finish. Volunteers are needed to help us complete this project, so if you enjoy painting or have creative thoughts about interior design, we need you. This project is indoors only however we do have access to the outdoors.

Timing is flexible! The hours of operation are from 10 am- 10 pm Monday- Friday and weekends vary but we will accommodate volunteers' interest in what day and time are best. This event will be ongoing until the project is complete.

WE REALLY NEED YOUR COMPLETING THIS PROJECT!!!

Using your own equipment, take photographs of native flora and fauna, special events, and of Refuge staff and partners working in the field. Close ups/Macro photos are preferred. Photographs will become property of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and may be used in a variety of outreach materials and online.

To make this volunteer position easier to manage, we ask volunteers to use their own camera equipment and to travel to open areas on the Refuge in their own vehicle/boat/feet on their own time. Please be sure to stay on Refuge trails and only access areas that are open to the general public. At this point in time, only three of our Refuge units are open to self-guided exploration. The Gibraltar Bay Unit is located on Grosse Ile at 28820 East River Road. The Fix and Strong Units are located in Monroe County. Check out the Refuge website for directions. In addition, we do offer a variety of Open Houses throughout the year at Humbug Marsh in Trenton. The public is allowed to visit the trails during these dates and you are welcome to attend and take photographs.

Destined For Greatness Adopt A Family Program Flyer! We have 62 families, 5 senior citizens, and 2 veterans in need of being adopted!!

Help us set up and execute our food pantry at Towner! The pantry is on the first Wednesday of each month. Food typically arrives from Food Gatherers at 1:00pm, it is unloaded and set up in the community room til the pantry opens at 2pm and goes til 4pm. We could use your help unloading, organizing the food that is received, displaying food, checking residents in, walking residents through the pantry, and walking food to the homes of the seniors at Towner.

Girls on the Run of Southeastern Michigan is looking for volunteers for our upcoming spring 2023 season! Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program designed to develop and enhance girls’ social, psychological, and physical competencies to successfully navigate life experiences. Meeting twice a week, our trained and caring coaches teach life skills to 3rd-8th grade girls through dynamic lessons and physical activity. Our research-based curriculum establishes lifelong healthy habits and instills critical social-emotional skills at a time when girls need it the most. Each season concludes with a celebratory 5k event. Completing a 5k gives the girls a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals.

Join us on the first Tuesday of each month to participate in a little volunteerism at the office! Here we will focus on packing materials for our site leaders, packing season materials, folding program shirts, end of season materials return and more! Event Driver volunteers serve a critical role in our event program and in the lives of our international residents. Volunteers choose when and how often they'd like to volunteer depending on our events calendar. The Ann Arbor Book Society strives to be the go-to place for all local book-related news and events, and one of the most important resources we offer to this end is the monthly events calendar located on our website. Our goal is to maintain a comprehensive and inclusive calendar of book-related events taking place in Ann Arbor. In order to accomplish this, we rely on dedicated volunteers to search a variety of online resources to find local book events and input them into our online calendar. Events include but are not limited to: all book-related events taking place at Ann Arbor independent bookstores, universities, libraries, churches, and other organizations, book festivals, and book sales. This task usually takes between five to six hours a month and all events for a given month are expected to be posted by the first of that month.

We are always looking for small groups (3-12 volunteers) to help clean and organize New Beginnings' space and donations. Several areas are currently in need of special attention-- the art supplies for our art gallery and studio which supports artists who are unhoused or insecurely housed; the clothing donation room; and the camping and hygiene donations. The neater these spaces are kept and the more effectively sorted the donations, the better we are able to meet the needs of our friends. 

Volunteers are needed to assist with indoor and outdoor beautification projects such as clean-up, lawn maintenance, planting flowers and plants, removing drywall, painting, home maintenance, etc. 

Friends of ITNDetroit (Independence Rides) is a nonprofit public charity (IRS 501.c.3) focused on providing dignified transportation independence for seniors and vision impaired adults in the Detroit metropolitan area. Though we normally provide rides for any reason, under the current COVID-19 restrictions we continue to provide necessary rides to medical appointments, pharmacy, and grocery shopping. We also provide free rides for all COVID vaccination appointments.

The ideal applicant for this position has extra time on their hands and desires to use that time in service to seniors and vision impaired adults in Detroit area communities. This is a volunteer position, which includes a mileage reimbursement of $0.75 per occupied mile for those drivers who request it. Schedules are very flexible, allowing drivers to provide as many or as few rides as desired, based on available ride requests. Currently most ride requests are during week days, but are expected to include weekends as the COVID pandemic subsides. Most drivers will provide these rides using their own vehicles. Independence Rides provides additional insurance to cover the vehicle and all occupants.

As a Community we rely heavily on our volunteers for periodic events such as our annual resource fair, mentee activities such as moves, or small community events that we have regularly. The more people we have active in our community the more needs we can address.  

Trucks are a valuable commodity (as are those who drive them). Occasionally, we have an opportunity or need that requires the bed of a truck and we currently have little or no capability of addressing these opportunities or needs. This would only be an occasional request with no specific expectations of commitment, simply a willingness to help when possible.

The Events Committee at WACC is a group of individuals from the Washtenaw County Community who meet monthly to plan and discuss our three yearly events. The position is ongoing, and you would be committing to a 2-3 hours per month. Detroit VITALS (Virtual Intersystem Telemedicine and Lifestyle Services) free clinic is seeking volunteers to apply for the Board of Directors Treasurer position for our organization!  

The Treasurer shall be a director of the free clinic and shall report the clinic financial status to the Board of Directors at each regular meeting. The Treasurer shall work closely with any board or committee member of Detroit VITALS to ascertain that the appropriate procedures are being followed in the financial affairs of the Corporation. The Treasurer shall perform such other duties as requested and assigned by the Board of Directors such as managing the Board’s review of, and action related to, the board’s financial responsibilities, managing the finances of Detroit VITALS, administration of fiscal matters for Detroit VITALS and providing the annual budget to the Board for approval. The Treasurer is also responsible for providing the Board with reports regarding key financial events, trends, concerns, and assessment of fiscal health.  The Treasurer will also recommend to the board whether the organization should have an audit, and if so, will select and meet with the auditor.

Lastly, if the Board President, Vice President and Secretary are unable to perform the duties of the Board President the Treasurer shall assume the role of Board President. Term limits will likely initially be one to three years. We are looking for persons with one of the following: extensive leadership experience, demonstrated success as a committee chair or board member, and/or experience in building nonprofit sectors.

All board of directors will be expected to follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions.  They will also be required to sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings.  Lastly, all board of directors will be required to maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of Detroit VITALS free clinic.

We are looking for any and all individuals to assist in the creation of a novel new Telemedicine Project called Detroit VITALS free clinic (Virtual Intersystem Telemedicine And Lifestyle Services)!  

We are looking for any and all level of interest at this point and from any/all career perspectives ranging from Social Work, Information technology to Health care and Allied professions.  We are very much looking for other Physicians and Health Providers who may be interested in volunteering for a few hours or more a month from the safety of your home!  We are also strongly interested in Social workers and Mental health therapists or Psychiatrists.  All appointments, meetings and interventions will be done online and can be done from the safety of your home.  Safety is our number one priority while still providing access to Healthcare. 

At Detroit VITALS, we believe Healthcare is not a privilege but a right and we need your help to make this a reality!! 

Our goal will be to start providing primary care and limited specialty services by the end of winter of 2022 to persons without health insurance in Wayne, Washtenaw and Oakland counties (Metro-Detroit).  We will start teaching and working with volunteers likely prior to the end of 2022.  

Shifts are still being worked out in conjunction with operating hours which are subject to change.  Currently, there will be expected 1 shift per month and 1 shift as a back up person.  Tentatively the clinic (when open) will be seeing patients from 5 pm to 8 pm hours Tuesday thru Thursday (3 hour shifts).

Hello and welcome to the Detroit VITALS (Virtual Intersystem Telemedicine And Lifestyle Services) project!  

We are working with our planning committee to begin possibly the first ever Telemedicine based (online only) free clinic  and are looking for anyone interested in helping! We are looking to get the clinic operational by the end of the winter of 2022 and are looking for volunteers to help us make this a reality.

We will continue to be holding weekly meetings at Wednesday evenings on Zoom to create content and plan for the grand opening of the Detroit VITALS free telemedicine clinic!  General planning committee meetings will be one hour per week and members will be expected hour contributions are 3-5 hours per week on average currently with select committees (Networking, Educational Content, Workflow, Social Media, Website development, Advertising and Human resources/volunteer management).  

We are looking for anyone interested in assisting in helping plan out and develop plans/strategies for the new clinic as we get the clinic off the ground (goal Winter of 2022).

This program is a partnership with St. Joseph Mercy Cancer Care Center in Ann Arbor and the American Cancer Society. Volunteers will spend time in the cancer center talking with patients and families spreading the word about services offered by CSC and other support available through the health system. Volunteers will be trained and will be able to answer questions and provide tours of the Cancer Center.

Facility Greeters help create an inclusive home away from home atmosphere with a friendly smile and warm welcome to all arriving at the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor. Greeters answer phones, give tours of the facility and help staff manage projects as needed. Committment ranges from once a month to once a week depending on interest and availability.

Six times a year we publish and distribute our program calendar so that people affected by cancer and the medical community are updated on our activities. 

Ambassadors are our calendar delivery volunteers who help distribute calendars to medical facilities, clinics, and community agencies in our area along with restocking marketing materials such as brochures and calendars. They check the quantity provided as well as discard any outdated materials to assure timely information of CSC services.

In addition, Ambassadors focus on developing and maintaining relationships with professionals for increased awareness of, and referrals to CSC. Individuals must be able to articulate and champion the mission of CSC, answer questions and enjoy getting out in the community and meeting people. Training provided.

Throughout the year, The Cancer Support Community sets up information booths at various health fairs and community educational events. Volunteers set up the booth, pass out literature, and talk about services. These volunteers are placed on a list and called as needed.

A Girl Like Me Inc has a ongoing need for volunteers to help sort donations before they are distributed to those in need.

Volunteers can help out Monday through Friday between 10:00am and 4:00pm - timing is flexible!

ACC is a proud food distribution partner of Forgotten Harvest. Our location serves an estimated 200+ individuals weekly. Distribution takes place every Thursday morning from 8:30am - 12:30pm or until supplies last. 

Volunteers are needed to assist with unloading and organizing the food items into boxes inside our warehouse and distributing to clients in attendance. Currently we are operating as a drive-thru and walkup system, where the food is loaded directly into clients' cars or carts. 

Volunteers will work primarily outdoors unless sorting food in our warehouse; please dress according to the weather and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Close-toed shoes recommended. Lifting boxes of 25+ lbs is often involved, but there are frequently smaller/lighter items to be sorted as well. If accommodations are needed, please let us know.

The type of volunteer work we have may depend on many variables such as the time of year, weather, size, and age of the group or otherwise. As such, it's difficult to share what exactly volunteers will be doing on a particular date.

BCI helps homebound seniors receive their Focus: Hope grocery boxes. Each month, on the Friday after the 4th Thursday you can deliver between 6 to 8 Focus: Hope boxes of groceries. Choose to come every month? Then you're able to receive the same route and form a connection with the seniors. This is a wonderful way to make a huge impact every month or once in a while. 

Each box weighs around 30 lbs and typically can fit in the backseat of a sedan and trunk. Orientation required.

We are looking for volunteers to join our "Serve Our Seniors" mission. In this program, we shop for household cleaning supplies and offer a safe deliver to their doorstep. We, also, issue food boost cards for our seniors in need. (This program will resume with upcoming funding source, but we're gathering names now)

We are currently looking for volunteers to be tech trainers for our Senior Tech Program. We have a curriculum that includes 5 lessons. We teach seniors in a group setting or one to one trainings. The Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) Caregiver Coaching Program is a free program that provides mentorship and support for family caregivers. We match people who are caring for an aging or disabled loved one with a compassionate, trained volunteer for one-to-one support. Coaches help identify needs and obstacles, explore and select options, offer encouragement, and strive to build a safe and supportive environment.  

  The program is designed to meet the needs of caregivers. There is no requirement for a certain number of communications or a specified structure or timeline. Caregivers typically speak with coaches twice a month over the phone, but every caregiver's needs are different. Coaches schedule calls in collaboration with their caregivers. 

 The AAA 1-B is actively seeking volunteers to enroll as Caregiver Coaches, as well as caregivers interested in participating in the program. This companionship can come in many forms such as reminiscing/ telling life stories, taking Part in pinning ceremonies and assist with VA resources.

Most of the cleaning/organizing would occur within the shelter, and this includes but is not limited to cleaning fridges, ovens, the pet center and more!

Volunteer must be 13 or older, and all minors must be supervised by an adult 21+.

No training required, projects are typically scheduled about one month in advance.

We are looking for a volunteer presenter that is willing to work with us long term. Our current staff member is going on maternity leave at the end of April, and we would love to have someone to help coordinate and fill in the gaps with presentations.

You will be giving presentations to children ages 3 yrs old through 2nd grade, on safety, including personal safety in a short (15 min) program over a series of 10 days.

Must be available days and be willing to submit to a background check. Flexible hours - approx. 5-10 hours a week (dependent on the schools’ schedules), but for each group of children you are presenting the program to, you must be able to commit to 10 consecutive days. We serve several schools and preschools throughout the year. You do not have to commit to being the presenter for all of these, but we would like you to be able to present to a least one school a year. We will provide you with the necessary training, materials, and support to provide this program.

Our website (www.arcservices.org) was recently re-done. Some support is needed to fix webhooks, ensure integration with plugins and other external apps are functioning properly, Anti-spam is set, and general clean up. The website was created by someone with minimal experience in website creation, but website is fully functioning and creator would love to work alongside volunteer.

WTPOF is looking for an individual who has experience and managing social media accounts and can implement our social media content strategy with minimal supervision in a remote capacity. Ideally, this same individual also has experience in updating and maintaining a WordPress website and can provide intermittent support integrating/maintaining plug-ins and overall design.

Do you like to plan parties or have great ideas to make money.  The Ypsilanti Senior Center is looking for some energetic people that like fundraising.  We would like to develop teams that can help create, plan and execute several fundraisers per year.  Times and days are negotiable.  

We can't keep up with our membership, donor and mailing lists.  We could use someone to come in and update our files each week.  3-4 hours/ per week.  Times and days are negotiable.  

Our House is building a unique, integrated model to support youth typically lacking the experience of growing up with significant adults in their lives. Through individual and group mentoring, life skills training, camp retreats, employment training, and supportive housing options, Our House builds upon each component to help assure successful outcomes as youth transition to adulthood.

Our Mentors are instrumental in fulfilling Our House’s goal of propelling youth to reach their full potential and equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to function independently and contribute to society. They must possess a sincere desire to be personally involved with another person to help him or her achieve personal and career goals. Mentors will develop supportive relationships with foster care youth participating in the Our House programs and aid them through emotional support and social and recreational development. The Mentor provides caring companionship to supplement the work of parents, teachers, counselors, social workers and other social services and education professionals. 

Each Mentor will be provided with initial training before working with youth and ongoing support throughout the program. The average Mentor will put in approximately 6 to 12 hours each month in services to our youth. This commitment may come in larger or smaller doses, but the Mentor must be consistent. While Mentors may serve longer than one year, the minimum expectation of any Mentor will be one year.

The Washtenaw County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is not currently looking for new volunteers (medical and non-medical) to be trained to help the Washtenaw County Health Department.
