Volunteer: Volunteer Greeter

Job Summary: Represent Turner Senior Resource Center by being a friendly and helpful guide to information about classes, programs, and resources available to participants. Greeters are responsible for general tasks such as handling all phone calls, making coffee, handling money, registering members for classes, and assisting other programs in the building.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Greet everyone at the door, answer questions, and direct them to the right location Answer phone calls, respond to questions or direct to appropriate staff as needed Check daily building schedule to know the day’s activities Read all appropriate materials to learn about TSWP, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Housing Bureau for Seniors, Silver Club and Turner Geriatric Clinic programs Register people for TSWP classes and confirm attendance by phone prior to first class Collect TSWP class fees and donations and issue receipts Make coffee and keep any refreshments available on counter, using required sanitation methods Help with presentations by signing people in and directing people to rooms Keep lobby bulletin board and information tables up to date Learn about community resources and the Resources for Older Adults database to help older adults and family members learn about needed services Refer complicated questions or people with social work needs to Assistant Director Assume other tasks and responsibilities according to TSRC need and volunteer talents Assist other programs in building with tasks such as mailings, if time available Register at Michigan Medicine Volunteer Services and record hours for Michigan Medicine Volunteer Services

 

Qualifications:

Personable and friendly

Ability to handle multiple tasks Pleasant telephone etiquette Reliable and punctual Ability to work with minimal supervision Must like working with older adults

 

Training:

New volunteers meet one-on-one with the Assistant Director or Director who will explain the position, assess the appropriateness of the volunteer match, and provide training in the position.

 

The volunteer then spends a half -day shadowing a current greeter to get "on-the-job" experience.

 

Finally, the new volunteer takes a regular shift with supervision by the volunteer coordinator.

 

Two meetings are held annually to update all the volunteers on new programs and procedures, to get their suggestions, and to give additional information on issues like safety and community resources.

The senior citizen residents of the Village of Oakman Manor needs volunteer help in managing their community garden! Volunteers will help residents tend the garden, maintain it, and harvest once produce is ripe. The garden provides residents with fresh, accessible, and local-grown produce.
