Description

Much like our Love a Park Days noted above, we will be coordinating and featuring rain garden maintenance work days. Join us!

Burns Park Rain Garden & Park Cleanup Workday
Sunday, May 7, 1-3 p.m.
Meet at the tennis courts by the Ann Arbor Senior Center. Learn about rain gardens, native plants and the role they play in keeping our rivers clean. We will weed spring invasive plants like bindweed and thistle. During this workday, we will teach you to identify weeds and a few of the native plants that keep this garden in bloom throughout the season. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a water bottle and dress for the weather. We will provide tools, gloves, water and expertise.

Veterans Memorial Park Zamboni Rain Garden Workday
Tuesday, June 6, 10 a.m.-noon
Meet in the parking lot west of the pool. Come join us in caring for one of the oldest rain gardens in town. This garden was built downhill of the Zamboni’s snow pile so that snow melt would feed the garden. Now, the garden is full of perennials like Canada anemone, blue vervain and goldenrod. Help us weed and clear out the inlets so water can run freely into the garden. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a water bottle and dress for the weather. We will provide tools, gloves, water and expertise.

Burns Park Rain Garden and Park Cleanup Workday
Saturday, July 8, 1-3 p.m.
Meet at the tennis courts by the Ann Arbor Senior Center. Join us on this summer day to tackle the bindweed plants that are trying to cover the rain garden and tennis court fence. Learn how this rain garden stores and cleans water that lands on the tennis courts and the senior center parking lot. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a water bottle and dress for the weather. We will provide tools, gloves, water and expertise.

Veterans Memorial Park Ice Arena Rain Garden and Park Cleanup Workday
Tuesday, Oct. 3, 10 a.m.-noon
Meet at the entrance to the ice arena. Help weed a newly replanted rain garden. This rain garden was replanted to have low-growing plants below tall sycamore trees and shorter redbud trees. We need your help in weeding around these new plants. Learn about rain gardens and how to identify weeds. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a water bottle and dress for the weather. We will provide tools, gloves, water and expertise.
