Description

Internship Title: Mobile Clinic Operations & Volunteer Coordination Intern

ORGANIZATION NAME A Servant’s Heart

Organization Overview: A Servant’s Heart Community is a faith-based organization in the Washtenaw County area that brings together churches, residents, and other local grassroot organizations to help vulnerable communities thrive. Their localized outreach focus includes community projects like healthy aging initiatives, community gardens, park enhancements, and support networks addressing homelessness.

About the Mobile Clinic Initiative: The recent closure of the West Willow Clinic removed the area’s only healthcare  anchor, deepening existing health disparities in a neighborhood ranked in the lowest opportunity tier  across all 19 Washtenaw County Opportunity Index indicators. For 12-18-months, the West Willow  Mobile Clinic Initiative will create rotating mobile “pop-up” clinics to preserve access to preventive,  routine, and urgent care in the neighborhood until a permanent facility is established.

Internship Overview

The Mobile Clinic Operations & Volunteer Coordination Intern will support the day-to-day operational infrastructure of the new mobile clinic, including clinic setup, volunteer coordination, patient flow, safety procedures, and reusable systems that help the pop-up clinic run consistently. This is a great role for someone who wants to be at the center of what actually makes the mobile clinic work —  and who is interested in building the systems and processes that can make the clinic thrive!

Core Responsibilities

Coordinate mobile clinic logistics (site setup, supplies, signage, patient flow, and closing procedures).

Support scheduling for providers, volunteers, and partners for clinic days.

Develop and maintain clinic-day checklists, setup guides, safety protocols, and technology backup plans.

Help onboard volunteers by preparing role descriptions, shift guides, privacy expectations, and trauma-informed communication materials.

Track basic clinic operations information such as attendance, volunteer coverage, clinic flow challenges, and supply needs.

Serve as a liaison between clinic staff, volunteers, and community partners on operational needs.

Support patient navigation on clinic days by helping residents understand where to go, what services are available, and how to access referral resources, while avoiding clinical decision-making.

Key Projects/Deliverables

Create a Mobile Clinic Standard Operating Playbook with site setup steps, patient flow, check-in process, safety protocols, supply lists, closing procedures, and backup plans.

Develop Volunteer Onboarding and Shift Guide with information about volunteer roles, expectations, clinic-day responsibilities, privacy guidance, trauma-informed communication tips, emergency procedures, and escalation contacts.

      Clinic Operations Checklist Packet
Includes pre-clinic, day-of-clinic, and post-clinic checklists.

      Volunteer and Partner Scheduling Tracker
A spreadsheet or dashboard that tracks volunteer roles, shifts, contacts, compliance needs, and clinic assignments.

Additional tasks and projects as assigned:  projects for lighter weeks: Update volunteer contact lists; prepare supply inventory lists; draft reminder emails or texts for volunteers; review and improve clinic-day signage; create resources for volunteers and residents (overview, FAQ, etc.; help organize shared files and templates.
