ORGANIZATION NAME Educate Youth

Organization Overview: Educate Youth provides free afterschool and summer programming for students in grades 7–12 who live in the 48197 and 48198 zip codes. Our mission is to provide everything students need to succeed, including transportation, nutritious meals, school supplies, and social-emotional support in a safe, welcoming third space. All of our programs are free and include transportation, ensuring every student has access to opportunities that help them thrive.


Position Overview

The Marketing, Communications, and Donor Engagement Capacity-Building Intern will assist with implementing a communications plan that includes social media, newsletters, website updates, and marketing materials highlighting student success stories and program impact. They will support the launch and growth of a monthly giving campaign by creating donor outreach materials, recurring giving messages, and stewardship communications that encourage long-term support. Additional responsibilities include researching prospective donors and corporate partners, maintaining a communications calendar, assisting with fundraising campaigns such as Giving Tuesday and the End-of-Year Campaign, and creating promotional materials for community events.

This internship is sponsored by the Community-Based Internship Fund at U-M’s Ginsberg Center. As part of this internship, you will complete training and advising with Ginsberg Center staff to support professional development.


Core Responsibilities


  • Design and help implement a structured monthly giving campaign including donor segmentation, messaging templates, and a simple stewardship calendar.

  • Create ready-to-use materials such as email sequences, social media posts, impact stories, and donor updates that clearly communicate Educate Youth’s impact and funding needs.

  • Develop a practical funding diversification plan outlining grants, individual giving, corporate sponsorships, and event-based revenue, including a pipeline calendar and application tracking system.


Preferred qualifications/experience

  • A genuine interest in working with young people ages 12–17 and a commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. 

  • A strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, along with a willingness to learn and contribute to a youth-centered nonprofit organization. 

  • An appreciation for positive youth development and an openness to working with students from diverse backgrounds are essential.

  • The ability to treat every student with respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy while valuing youth voice and diverse lived experiences. 

  • On-site engagement

    • The Marketing and Communications position requires approximately 2-3 hours per week on site at the Educate Youth Clubhouse (104 S. Huron Street), with the remaining hours completed remotely or as appropriate. Regular on-site engagement is important to develop a strong understanding of our students, programs, staff, and organizational culture and to create authentic and meaningful marketing and communications content.

This position is open to Undergraduate, Masters and PhD-level students


Timeline/Schedule

8-10 hours per week September 2026 - April 2027


Compensation Information

This internship is sponsored by Ginsberg Centers CBI Fund. Once selected this intern will be hired and paid by the Ginsberg Center.

$17/hr - undergraduate students

$19/hr - masters students

$21/hr - doctoral students
