About the Internship:
As a Summer of HeART Intern, you'll play a crucial role in orchestrating a program that empowers nearly 300 young artists. This is your chance to gain invaluable hands-on experience in non-profit program management and make a meaningful impact on youth, families, and communities.
Programming this year will include activities like:
- Hand building and wheel throwing ceramics,
- Theater and improv - including set design and props,
- Surface design with printing, stamping, and T-shirt decoration,
- Story development and telling,
- Congolese drumming and dance, and more!
What You'll Do:
- Be the Backbone: Assist with data tracking and entry, ensuring smooth operations behind the scenes.
- Set the Stage: Help with program set-up and tear-down, transforming spaces into creative havens.
- Master of Supplies: Manage artistic materials and resources, ensuring everything runs like a well-oiled machine.
- Engage and Inspire: Work closely with our programming team, building relationships with youth and community partners.

You will succeed in this role if you identify as prepared and organized, flexible and able to think through solutions, team oriented and independently motivated, able to connect with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds and ages, and like to have fun!
A background check will be run for all individuals interacting with youth. Please note that YAA is committed to redemption and second chances, and anything that is brought to our attention through a background check may not automatically disqualify an applicant.
Location
The Summer of HeART program will take place at the Ypsilanti District Library - Superior Branch, 900 N Harris Rd, Superior Township, MI 48198.
Dates & Times
Programming will begin Friday, June 20 and run through Friday, August 15, taking place Wednesday - Friday from 2pm - 5pm, with arrival onsite at 1:30pm. The fun culminates in a day of celebration on Saturday, August 16 from 2pm - 5pm, with arrival onsite for set-up at 11am.
Additionally, an orientation with library staff and community partners (4 hours), and training with YAA team members (6 hours) will take place in early June, before programming begins.
Note that YAA is closed the week of June 30 - July 4, and no programming will occur.
Compensation
Students will be paid an hourly wage as per the Ginsberg Center’s guidelines, between 100-125 hours of work, up to $2,000:
● $16/hr - undergraduate students
● $18/hr - masters students
● $20/hr - doctoral students
