Who: Detroit’s 9/11 Day of Service - A day of service to rekindle the spirit of unity and service felt in the days following 9/11/01, transforming the day from one of tragedy into one of profound positive impact. What: Each year, we partner with the Corporation for National and Community Service, AmeriCorps, and a long list of partners to hold meal-packing events for local food banks across the country. This year in Detroit, 1,000 volunteers will come together to pack 300,000 meals for people experiencing food insecurity in the local community. The meals will be donated to Forgotten Harvest. Nationwide, more than 25,000 volunteers will pack 8 million meals for those at risk of hunger in America. Call for Volunteers: Each of our events requires a group of what we call 'Support Staff.' These are the leaders onsite who serve as 'table captains' for our meal packing assembly lines, carry and move boxes of meals around the event floor, run our check-in process, and provide directional support. We couldn't put on successful events without this group! They really set the tone and help to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for our meal packers. Volunteers must be age 18 or over and can register here. When: Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 7:30 am - 12:00 pm OR 11:30 am - 4:00 pm with an hour-long Zoom training a few days prior to the event.
