Overview:

Learn about the benefits of a plant-based diet for environmental and social justice. Then, share this information with your peers by creating a presentation tailored to your audience and sharing it with them. You can present a series of presentations to one audience or the same presentation to multiple groups, depending on whether you would rather dig into the research on one topic or improve your confidence with public speaking. 

Learning objectives: 

Improve understanding of animal agriculture’s effects on climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.Improve reading comprehension skills for scientific papers and learn to clearly communicate findings with a non-scientific audience.Develop presentation design skills, including slide design, storytelling, audience tailoring, etc. Gain effective communication skills that enable you to critically engage with this topic with varying audiences including your peers and the public, such as active listening and asking critical questions.Learn about skills and competencies required in research and communications professions.

Stages:

Investigation

Research and identify preferred audiences for presentations. Survey audience to understand their current knowledge around the connection between food and the environment.

Preparation and Planning

Research the connection between food and environment independently and with the support of Switch4Good materials and team.Reflect on survey results to determine the focus and depth of the presentation.Create visual aid(s) for the presentation(s) and craft talking points.Practice the presentation(s). Hire MI Vet (HMV) is one of the premier Veteran service organizations in the greater Southeast Michigan area. Founded in 2015, the organization  brings leaders from the community together to exchange ideas and take action to better the Veteran community. Supporting this, the organization has an extensive commitment to local and state charitable service.

The Executive Director is charged with working hand‐in‐hand with the Board of Directors and the organization’s Leadership to ensure the long‐term viability of the organization and operational and charitable finances. The Executive Director has a special responsibility to assist with smooth leadership transitions from year‐to‐year, as well as to maintain organization’s repository, both electronic and physical.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative Management

Manages the day‐to‐day operations of the organization.

Interface with members to assist with their HMV experience. Ensures the timely reporting of information to the Board and Steering Committee. Assist with and maintains the databases with the Marketing Coordinator and other communication management Software. Assists in the maintenance of the HMV website. Provides select committees and projects with administrative support. Manages office administrative tasks as needed for efficient overall operations of HMV. Provides administrative support to the current Officers and Committee Coordinators. Assists upkeep of master copies of By‐laws and Policies and Guidelines with the organization’s Treasurer. Uses or (learns) servant leadership philosophy to empower, guide, and teach the HMV team

 

Financial Management

Ensures regular recording of financial receipts and deposit of those receipts at appropriate intervals. Assists Treasurer to ensure all expense and bills for HMV are paid in a timely manner Provides resources and support to the financial oversight group in the following area: Assists with the preparation of the annual budget in coordination with the President and the organization’s Treasurer.

 A position as demanding as Executive Director for an organization with the caliber of HMV requires specific personal attributes and business skills. Some of these include:

Hello and welcome to the Detroit VITALS (Virtual Intersystem Telemedicine And Lifestyle Services) project!  

We are working with our planning committee to begin possibly the first ever Telemedicine based (online only) free clinic  and are looking for anyone interested in helping! We are looking to get the clinic operational by the end of the winter of 2022 and are looking for volunteers to help us make this a reality.

We will continue to be holding weekly meetings at Wednesday evenings on Zoom to create content and plan for the grand opening of the Detroit VITALS free telemedicine clinic!  General planning committee meetings will be one hour per week and members will be expected hour contributions are 3-5 hours per week on average currently with select committees (Networking, Educational Content, Workflow, Social Media, Website development, Advertising and Human resources/volunteer management).  

We are looking for anyone interested in assisting in helping plan out and develop plans/strategies for the new clinic as we get the clinic off the ground (goal Winter of 2022).

Volunteer: Social Media Marketing Intern For Malnutrition Treatment and Family Preservation Center in Haiti

We are a small, faith-based non-profit working to alleviate severe acute malnutrition— and address some of the causes that lead to it— in the country of Haiti. We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Social Media/Marketing intern who can help us communicate and connect with our donor base, which is primarily in the U.S. This position will be fully remote and can be done from anywhere that has reliable internet access. Hours are flexible (you can work on your own schedule), but ideally we’re looking for a commitment of 5-10 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months. .

As a nonprofit organization working internationally, most of our donors will never have the opportunity to see our mission in person, so it’s vitally important to make sure that our supporters are involved and kept up to date on what is happening on the ground in Haiti. Social media has become our main form of communication with our donors to share stories and raise money to fund our programs. We have a very active social media calendar with multiple campaigns throughout the year and several monthly newsletters and emails to plan and design. 

 

As a Social Media Marketing intern for Middle Ground, you will get to have your hands in multiple exciting projects that make a direct and lasting impact on the lives of the children and families we work withs. Although the day-to-day work you will do does not take place on the ground in Haiti, the result of this role is truly the backbone of our ability to fund and run our programs. It is only with the support that comes from a strong and engaging social media presence thatwe can offer programs that truly save lives and change the future of countless children and their families in Haiti.

As a Social Media Marketing intern, you will work closely with our staff in Haiti to create social media content that shares the stories of children and families in our programs. You will also have a role in planning and gathering information for newsletters, and assisting in brainstorming and executing new and exciting fundraising initiatives. Your core responsibilities are well scheduled, but you will have opportunities to do something different nearly every day as you dive into our various programs and events!

Social Media Intern Responsibilities:

Community Partner: Middle Ground Haiti

We are a small, faith-based non-profit working to alleviate severe acute malnutrition— and address some of the causes that lead to it— in the country of Haiti. We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Social Media/Marketing intern who can help us communicate and connect with our donor base, which is primarily in the U.S. This position will be fully remote and can be done from anywhere that has reliable internet access. Hours are flexible (you can work on your own schedule), but ideally we’re looking for a commitment of 5-10 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months. .

As a nonprofit organization working internationally, most of our donors will never have the opportunity to see our mission in person, so it’s vitally important to make sure that our supporters are involved and kept up to date on what is happening on the ground in Haiti. Social media has become our main form of communication with our donors to share stories and raise money to fund our programs. We have a very active social media calendar with multiple campaigns throughout the year and several monthly newsletters and emails to plan and design. 

 

As a Social Media Marketing intern for Middle Ground, you will get to have your hands in multiple exciting projects that make a direct and lasting impact on the lives of the children and families we work withs. Although the day-to-day work you will do does not take place on the ground in Haiti, the result of this role is truly the backbone of our ability to fund and run our programs. It is only with the support that comes from a strong and engaging social media presence thatwe can offer programs that truly save lives and change the future of countless children and their families in Haiti.

As a Social Media Marketing intern, you will work closely with our staff in Haiti to create social media content that shares the stories of children and families in our programs. You will also have a role in planning and gathering information for newsletters, and assisting in brainstorming and executing new and exciting fundraising initiatives. Your core responsibilities are well scheduled, but you will have opportunities to do something different nearly every day as you dive into our various programs and events!

Social Media Intern Responsibilities:

Donor communications and engagement  Assist in managing and creating content across social media platforms Assist in planning and executing in-person and virtual fundraising events Develop and design fundraising and marketing materials Analyze analytics to gauge the success of social media content and fundraising campaigns Manage ad campaigns through Google Ads Grants and Facebook Ads

As a developing non-profit, we are looking for someone who can help us brainstorm around experiences that tie into middle school curriculum. We provide the planning template; we just need your ideas! Responsibilities include finding field trip locations around Metro Detroit; writing reflection questions to connect field trips to curriculum; and contacting locations to inquire about logistics around field trips.
