Unity Adventure Foundation (Michigan-registered 501(c)(3)) is seeking University of Michigan student volunteers to support ethical community fundraising efforts that raise donations for Michigan families in need.

Growing Hope is seeking a small team of physically capable volunteers to help move commercial kitchen equipment back into the Incubator Kitchen from MarketPlace Hall after the floors have been refinished. This final step allows us to safely reopen the kitchen and get community cooks and food entrepreneurs back to work.

Volunteers will assist with lifting, rolling, and carefully positioning large equipment such as refrigerators, prep tables, shelving, and storage units. Staff will be on site to coordinate placement, ensure clear pathways, and support safe movement of equipment.

This opportunity is best suited for volunteers who are comfortable with heavy lifting and teamwork. Closed-toe shoes are required. Gloves and basic moving equipment will be provided.

By helping reset the kitchen, you are directly supporting Growing Hope’s shared kitchen, local food businesses, and community food access programs. Your time and strength help us reopen the space quickly and safely, and we are grateful for your support.

This program solely relies on donations from agency partners to support low-income families, local non-profit organizations, faith-based institutions, and grassroot community organizations within Southeastern Michigan. 

Our amazing Community Fulfillment Center's storeroom needs a couple of volunteers to assist clients and partners, sort donations, restock shelves, and perform light data entry tasks. Staff is available to direct volunteers every Wednesday from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. We greatly appreciate your consideration and support! 

Volunteers will work with our site manager to welcome and assist clients, load donations into vehicles, sort donations, restock the shelves, complete data entry, and create a positive client experience. In addition, volunteers work directly with clients providing them with the basic needs and personal care items they need to support families in an uplifting and hopeful context.  

Both people skills and organization are important in the program.  Some Arabic language speaking skills are helpful but not necessary.  Volunteers will receive on-site training in all on-site processes.  Volunteers will gain valuable skills in customer service and warehouse maintenance. 

Volunteers may also assist with physical improvements to the space, including painting.

We are excited to offer volunteers the opportunity to receive training in disaster relief efforts. These trainings will equip you with essential skills and knowledge to effectively assist communities in times of crisis. By participating, you will learn about emergency response strategies, resource distribution, and community support techniques. Join us in this rewarding experience and become a vital part of our mission to help those in need during challenging times. Together, we can make a difference!

The program also hosts additional annual distributions for families and non & for-profit organizations, including perishable and non-perishables, brand-new clothing, houseware, electronics, beverages, cleaning supplies, household appliances, automotive hardware, and holiday gifts.

Read to a Child is a national literacy and mentoring non-profit that fosters a love of reading, improves literacy skills, and empowers underserved children by inspiring adults to read aloud to them regularly. Research shows that reading aloud to children is the single most important activity for eventual success in reading, a key factor for success in school, work, and life.  When an adult reads aloud to a child, both parties have a joyful, rewarding experience that instills a love of reading, improves literacy skills, and enhances a child’s self-confidence. 

WHAT IS NEEDED? Volunteers are needed to serve as reading mentors for Kindergarten through fourth graders at local schools during their lunchtime. The goal is to instill a love of reading and provide social-emotional support.

WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM TAKE PLACE? WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT? Mentors attend 30 minute reading sessions with their student once a week or every other week through the end of the school year.

We welcome any quantity of non-religious cards or placemats with messages of encouragement/thinking of you, with examples below. We appreciate if cards come without envelopes and are unsigned (we add a note that they are from a caring community member). Once received, they will be sent out to clients with their meal deliveries.  

Due to the diversity of our clientele, Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels typically steers away from phrases such as "I love you, you are loved, hugs, kisses, etc." on cards/placemats. Sentiments of kindness, care, positive humor, and joy are welcomed and appreciated!

AAMOW has a personal care items pantry that clients can access free of charge, and items are delivered with their meals. Donations of the following items for the pantry are being sought on an ongoing basis: 

Boxes of tissues  

Individually wrapped rolls of paper towel  

Individually wrapped rolls of toilet paper  

Laundry detergent (minimally scented) 

Antibacterial hand soap (minimally scented)  

Antibacterial dish soap (minimally scented)

We welcome any quantity of non-religious cards or placemats with messages of encouragement/thinking of you, with examples below. We appreciate if cards come without envelopes and are unsigned (we add a note that they are from a caring community member). Once received, they will be sent out to clients with their meal deliveries.  

Due to the diversity of our clientele, Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels typically steers away from phrases such as "I love you, you are loved, hugs, kisses, etc." on cards/placemats. Sentiments of kindness, care, positive humor, and joy are welcomed and appreciated!

With the recent changes to SNAP benefits during the government shutdown, many families in our neighboring communities are facing food insecurity. To help meet this growing need, community member and friend of Brilliant Detroit, Lisa Garatoni, is launching the Brilliant SNAP Campaign to provide extra support to families during this time.

As we approach the holiday season, we are calling on our community partners to help organize food drives to collect non-perishable items and essential household goods. These contributions will help stock the community pantries located throughout our Detroit neighborhoods.

Thanks to our wonderful partners at The Wave Project, most Brilliant community hubs now feature 24/7 food pantries just outside their doors. Families can access these pantries whenever they need, with no barriers and no questions asked. Together, we can make sure every family has what they need this holiday season.

The Children’s Healing Center is the first year-round recreation facility providing social and emotional healing for kids with weakened immune systems and their families in a safe, clean environment.

We utilize volunteers for all of our programs, but need extra help for our weekend programs from September through June. There are two Saturday programs (morning from 10-12 or afternoon 2-4) and two Friday night programs (6-8pm) each month. 

Volunteers will assist kids with art projects, playing games, serving snacks, and supervising free play.

All volunteers are subject to an interview and background checks.

Volunteer: Serve Food and Safety: Deliver a Food Box to an Elder!

BCI helps homebound seniors receive their Focus: Hope grocery boxes. Each month, on the Friday after the 4th Thursday you can deliver between 6 to 8 Focus: Hope boxes of groceries. Choose to come every month? Then you're able to receive the same route and form a connection with the seniors. This is a wonderful way to make a huge impact every month or once in a while. 

Each box weighs around 30 lbs and typically can fit in the backseat of a sedan and trunk. Orientation required.

ACC is a proud food distribution partner of Forgotten Harvest. Our location serves an estimated 200+ individuals weekly. Distribution takes place every Thursday morning from 8:30am - 12:30pm or until supplies last. 

Volunteers are needed to assist with unloading and organizing the food items into boxes inside our warehouse and distributing to clients in attendance. Currently we are operating as a drive-thru and walkup system, where the food is loaded directly into clients' cars or carts. 

Volunteers will work primarily outdoors unless sorting food in our warehouse; please dress according to the weather and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Close-toed shoes recommended. Lifting boxes of 25+ lbs is often involved, but there are frequently smaller/lighter items to be sorted as well. If accommodations are needed, please let us know.

Raise a puppy that can change two lives, yours and someone who is blind!

Puppy raisers take a puppy into their home and raise it for a specific period of time. While in the home, with the guidance of Leader Dog staff and specially trained volunteers, you will be training the puppy in basic house manners, commands and exposing it to new environments in a safe manner. Once the raising period is over, the puppy returns to Leader Dog to start its formal guide dog training.

One Household

It’s the traditional way to puppy-raise and perfect for families, college students, active

Help staff bring in donations and create new methods of fundraising. Assist staff in grand writing, and updating MADD fundraising materials.

Public Policy: Work to Strengthen Existing Laws and Pass New Ones to stop and prevent drunk and drugged driving. Help staff with gaining support and passing an All Offender Ignition Interlock Law. Help build support around Advanced Vehicle Technology.  Help Support MADD legislative priorities.

Leadership: Help expand and grow current volunteer opportunities, and create new opportunities to get volunteers engaged episodically or statically. Help thank volunteers and recruit new ones, and come up with new methods to get volunteers oriented and trained.

Zaman's Good Deeds Resale Shop provides a free, dignified selection experience for clients needing clothes, furniture, and household goods. It is also open to the public for low-cost purchases. The proceeds from these purchases go to better serve our clients through Zaman's various other programs, including rent and utilities assistance, buying food, and hotel costs. Volunteers will assist our staff in the Good Deeds Resale Store with sorting and organizing donations, re-stocking shelves, hanging clothing, cleaning items and areas, and creating displays for our customers and clients.

Both people skills and organization are important in the store. Volunteers will receive on-site training about store processes. Volunteers will gain valuable skills in customer service and store maintenance while helping support the most vulnerable in our community.

Zaman's Good Deeds Resale Shop provides a free, dignified selection experience for clients needing clothes, furniture, and household goods. It is also open to the public for low-cost purchases. The proceeds from these purchases go to better serve our clients through Zaman's various other programs, including rent and utilities assistance, buying food, and hotel costs. The store is part of Zaman's overall mission to provide basic needs and job training to female heads of household and female refugees and immigrants.

St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center Children's After School Program is a free, personalized, one-on-one tutoring program for children in grades 1-6, designed to offer year round support, focusing on math and reading. The Children’s Education Program helps to bridge the educational gap for students who are motivated to learn and for parents who support their learning.

A passion to help students succeed. Knowledge of basic skills like reading, writing, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division (not all these topics are required). Willingness to explain concepts in several ways, allowing for different learning styles. Previous teaching or tutoring experience and holding a degree are not required.
