Volunteer: Special Events Volunteers

Michigan Humane Society has many special events throughout the year and we could really use your assistance to make these events the best they can be! From large adoption events like Meet Your Best Friend at the Detroit Zoo to fundraisers like our Mutt March or Telethon with WXYZ, there is surely a volunteer opportunity that fits your interests and special skills.

As a special events volunteer, you have the opportunity to get more involved with your community while helping to support MHS' shelter animals. Volunteering in a special events role is low-commitment - we just ask that you volunteer at a minimum of one event per six months!

Let us know if this opportunity is right for you!

Volunteer: Humane Education Volunteer

Are you a retired teacher? A college student studying to become a teacher? Just love public speaking and hanging out with kids and animals? Perfect! The Michigan Humane Society offers Humane Education Programs for the community, with an emphasis on presenting youth-friendly programs. These programs teach metro Detroit area youth all about being an animal advocate and also teaches about safe animal handling skills. The presentations are then followed by a game or craft for the children (like making toys for our shelter dogs and cats!)

We are looking for volunteers who love animals, would like to present these programs, are comfortable working with children and don't mind working with a little bit of technology (like a projector and PowerPoint slideshow).

Let us know if this is the right opportunity for you!
