Volunteer: Part-time Executive DirectorHire MI Vet (HMV) is one of the premier Veteran service organizations in the greater Southeast Michigan area. Founded in 2015, the organization brings leaders from the community together to exchange ideas and take action to better the Veteran community. Supporting this, the organization has an extensive commitment to local and state charitable service. The Executive Director is charged with working hand‐in‐hand with the Board of Directors and the organization’s Leadership to ensure the long‐term viability of the organization and operational and charitable finances. The Executive Director has a special responsibility to assist with smooth leadership transitions from year‐to‐year, as well as to maintain organization’s repository, both electronic and physical. A cover letter is required for application review. Some in-person meetings are required but most of the work is virtual.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administrative Management Manages the day‐to‐day operations of the organization. Interface with members to assist with their HMV experience. Ensures the timely reporting of information to the Board and Steering Committee. Assist with and maintains the databases with the Marketing Coordinator and other communication management Software. Assists in the maintenance of the HMV website. Provides select committees and projects with administrative support. Manages office administrative tasks as needed for efficient overall operations of HMV. Provides administrative support to the current Officers and Committee Coordinators. Assists upkeep of master copies of By‐laws and Policies and Guidelines with the organization’s Treasurer. Uses or (learns) servant leadership philosophy to empower, guide, and teach the HMV team
Financial Management Ensures regular recording of financial receipts and deposit of those receipts at appropriate intervals. Assists Treasurer to ensure all expense and bills for HMV are paid in a timely manner Provides resources and support to the financial oversight group in the following area: Assists with the preparation of the annual budget in coordination with the President and the organization’s Treasurer.A position as demanding as Executive Director for an organization with the caliber of HMV requires specific personal attributes and business skills. Our endeavors are to provide employment resources; host networking programs; offer mentor services; and host an annual hiring event. We are in need of an administrative aide that is responsible for providing general coordination, clerical and secretarial functions and assist leadership of the Hire MI Vet team with miscellaneous tasks. Must have excellent writing skills and abilities.
Proposed tasks of Administrative Aid include: Write thank you emails and letters to employers, service providers, volunteers, sponsors, donors etc. Compose letters, forms, reports, and other papers. Assist President with clerical and logistical needs. Take meeting minutes. Assist with Constant Contact and LinkedIn Forward all information/ documents to designated co-chair for filing/storage. Other desirable skills, not required, include video/photo (via phone) and event coordination.

This volunteer position will consist of creating/updating resumes for Veterans in SE Michigan and NW Ohio. The work will be done virtually. Military skills and experience need to be translated into a civilian resume. It would be helpful to have a familiarity with USAJOBS.gov but not necessary. Expectations for Mentors Provide services under the perspective of unconditional positive regard Participate in monthly calls Be committed to the Hire MI Vet mission to assist Veterans in gaining meaningful employment Are not expected to be experts, but do have direct experience with Veterans and/or job preparation to the point to which they can confidently provide accurate service

Necessary abilities Develop fundraising strategies for Hire MI Vet Collaborate with Marketing Team (experience in a team environment) Excellent writing skills Supported by Hire MI Vet Steering Committee At least 2 years of fundraising experience Able to commit 2-4 hours per week
