The Ginsberg Center is excited for the start of this Fall semester, and we know many students are looking for ways to engage in the community. Our Center offers various resources for students to get involved, including our Connect2Community portal and Entering, Engaging & Exiting Workshops.
What Is Connect2Community?
Connect2Community is a volunteer portal hosted in collaboration with United Way of Washtenaw County to connect community members with organizations and volunteer opportunities. Over 270 community partners have registered their agencies on the portal, and we currently have over 6,100 volunteers registered. There are volunteer opportunities for every interest and capacity!
Upcoming volunteer opportunities:
Here are some examples of volunteer opportunities available on Connect2Community
- Sunday, September 19, 1 pm - 4 pm l Stewardship Work Day Lakewood Park - Join Natural Area Preservation staff in removing invasive plants from the Lakewood Park Nature Area. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and a long shirt for this activity. To learn more about this activity, click here.
- Become A Foster Family for a Dog or Cat - Bottle Babies Rescue is seeking volunteers to foster their rescues while they get ready for adoption. The agency will cover all the animals' medical needs while you supply the warm home and love! To learn more about this opportunity, click here.
Create or Update Your Profile
As we kick off the academic year, we encourage students to create a profile on the portal or update their profile if they have already registered. Registration and updating will only take a few minutes and is the first step in entering community partnerships. Click here to find instructions on creating a profile. For those already registered, click here for instructions on updating your account. Once you have updated your account, take some time to follow specific volunteer interests or agencies that interest you.
Entering, Engaging with, and Exiting
As you get ready to engage in the community, we invite you to attend an Entering, Engaging, and Exiting (E3) workshop this fall. This interactive virtual workshop introduces principles and practices for thoughtfully engaging with communities, including motivations, the impact of social identities, and strategies for engaging in reciprocal, ethical, and respectful ways. The Entering, Engaging, and Exiting workshop is a part of Ginsberg. The first workshop will be on September 24th, 12 noon via Zoom, but we will also offer this workshop throughout the school year. To learn more about this workshop and to register, click the link here.
We wish you a great fall semester and hope to see you soon at a Ginsberg event or a service opportunity!
