Who We Are

Mission: To create a community engaged in authentic, hands-on experiences through the teaching and sharing of traditional folk arts, crafts, music, and skills in an inspiring natural setting and to promote the preservation of forest and farmland.

The Michigan Folk School is dedicated to fostering a community engaged in hands-on learning through the teaching and sharing of traditional folk arts, crafts, music, and skills. Located within the scenic Staebler Farm County Park, we provide an inspiring natural setting for immersive educational experiences. Our mission extends beyond education to preserving Michigan’s rich agricultural and craft traditions, ensuring that forest and farmland remain vital parts of our community for generations to come.

What We Do

At the Michigan Folk School, we offer a wide range of classes and workshops in folk crafts and food crafts, connecting people with time-honored skills such as woodworking, blacksmithing, fiber arts, and traditional cooking techniques. Through these hands-on experiences, we help individuals rediscover self-sufficiency, creativity, and the joy of working with their hands.

Our partnership with Staebler Farm County Park allows us to integrate historical agricultural practices with modern sustainability efforts. Whether learning to forge metal, bake artisan bread, or craft wooden furniture, students engage in meaningful, skill-building activities while embracing Michigan’s rural heritage.

By teaching, preserving, and inspiring, we ensure that folk traditions remain a living part of our community. Join us to learn, create, and connect with the past while shaping the future.
