Who We Are

Mission: To raise awareness about sexual violence, educate the public on its effects and prevention, and provide support to survivors.

Standing Tough Against Rape Society (STARS) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, dedicated to raising awareness about sexual violence and supporting survivors. Founded in 2017, STARS collaborates closely with students at the University of Michigan to organize events and initiatives aimed at educating the public about the effects and prevalence of sexual violence. The organization focuses on providing information and resources for victims, making sure they know they are not alone, and helping them with their healing.

What We Do

To fulfill its mission, STARS organizes several key initiatives:

  1. Take Back the Night Ann Arbor – An annual event held on the University of Michigan campus that empowers survivors through a rally and march to take a stand against sexual violence.

  2. Movie Screenings and Speak Outs – STARS hosts movie screenings that focus on sexual violence, providing a platform for survivors to share their experiences.

  3. Non-Violent Prevention Programs – Offering practical tips and guidance to keep individuals safe.

  4. Self-Care and Volunteer Growth – Recognizing the importance of self-care, STARS encourages those involved in helping survivors to take time for themselves.
