Who We Are

Mission: To conserve the bird we love; take care of people who love them; and conserve the habitat both need to thrive.

Since its inception in 1973, the NWTF has provided the foundation for wild turkey conservation throughout North America. From the first research project funded in the 1970s, to the multimillion-acre restoration initiatives going on today and everywhere in between, conserving the wild turkey and preserving our hunting heritage has always been — and always will be — the backbone of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

What We Do

The NWTF’s education and outreach programs are designed to preserve our hunting heritage and ensure Healthy Habitats and Healthy Harvests. These programs began with the creation of the JAKES, Women in the Outdoors and Wheelin’ Sportsmen programs, and outreach efforts continue to evolve today.

The NWTF has expanded programming to include Mentored Hunts, Field to Fork and Learn to Hunt Clinics to ensure the NWTF’s education and outreach programs collectively make the greatest impact on hunter recruitment, retention, and reactivation.

Each year NWTF chapters across the United States offer people opportunities to explore the outdoors through local hands-on events and hunts. Events are designed to pass on the traditions of safe, ethical hunting and teach conservation principles.
