Who We Are
Mission: To make sure that edible, surplus food gets eaten by people (not landfills) and to lay the groundwork for lasting, long-term solutions to food waste.
Make Food Not Waste is a community organization dedicated to reducing the amount of food that goes to waste in Southeast Michigan. We believe that food is far too important to be thrown away into landfills. We envision a Michigan where no food creates methane emissions in landfills. To achieve this vision ,we’re working to stop food waste before it occurs and give overlooked food a place to go.
What We Do
Through public events, education outreach and community presentations, we give people the tools they need to waste less where they live and work. Our current programs include:
- Every Bit Counts – We are engaging six major cities in Metro Detroit, representing a population of 600,000 people, helping them activate prevention, rescue, and organics recycling actions.
- Upcycling Kitchens – Our team of professional chefs turn excess food into delicious, nutritious, and dignified meals for people in the community facing food insecurity.
